When Concordia got out a couple of weeks ago, a family from my home congregation (the Clubbs) asked if they could leave their daughter’s things in our house while they made a quick trip to Des Moines for the weekend. Since we have nothing around here but unused rooms, we said, “Of course.” It was pretty funny to come home and see all the boxes that contain a college student’s belongings.  Remember when everything you had would fit into half of a dorm room? I wish I’d have taken a picture of that.
Anyway, as a thank-you, the Clubbs left us various goodies that they had picked up from the trade show in Des Moines. Some awesome chocolate-covered pretzels, a stange yardstick-thingie, and some grilling planks. Last week we tried out the planks with some salmon, and lets just say – nothing can improve my grilling skills. (Hey, that can be taken both ways, huh?) I’ll stop there.

What’s lurking under those planks? Beady-eyed bats?
BTW--Happy First Monday of Vacation!
Peggy says
Hey, isn’t that how Denis started out … storing things. This may be just the beginning … haven’t you always wanted a Denis … don’t we all!
Brad says
So grilling planks are not re-usable, right? And the fish keeps them from outright burning to ash? So do you have to use hardwood, or can you just use some good ol’ MDF? How about a nice piece of plastic? Mmmm… plasticy fish…
Lauren says
Plastic’s right out, as is Saran Wrap. (Dang it.) You have to soak the plants for an hour so they don’t burn, but then it’s pretty much like baking them -- you keep the grill lid closed. My planks caught on fire a little bit, but apparently that’s normal.
