My Dad is a pastor, and growing up, we lived right by the church, so the annual Easter Egg hunt took place in the church yard and our yard. I’ll always remember the hot July day when I found an old egg in the garden. Smelly times.
Today was very pleasant. The Royuks and Pesters invited us for a scrumptious lunch, and the rest of the day was spent getting very little done. Tara had a great time finding eggs! Here’s a sneak peek:
Brad says
Ha! It’s good to see people sleeping on the floor on Easter. It’s a proud Royuk tradition. My first Easter out of college, someone invited me over for dinner. After eating, I promptly fell asleep on the floor, just like always. They thought it was strange. Some people just don’t understand…
Beth says
And then there was the Easter that Mom invited the Eyerlys over for dinner and we went downstairs and everyone fell asleep, except the Eyerlys…they were just sitting there on the couch thinking all of us were weird…
(Great video 😀 -- Tara LOVED it!)
Peggy says
Love the video!
And speaking of weird, does anyone else out there “pick” eggs on Easter? It’s a huge contest in my family, extemely competitive & ruthless, but I’m discovering most people have never heard of it. I’ve never, ever won the big contest. Yesterday was no exception. 🙁
Michele says
Ahhh yes -- egg wars -- good times. Which end of the egg do you think is most victorious -- the fat end or the pointy one? Do you hold your egg strategically when you pick?
Beth says
It must be a native Baltimore custom. Strange. You east-coasters.
Lauren's mom says
One year, on Easter eve, Lauren’s dad meticulously blew the insides out of a real egg through a small hole. Then he used it for his children’s sermon. He asked the children what was inside their eggs. Then he cracked his egg (to show the resurrection of Jesus from the tomb) and showed the children the empty egg. One little one said, “How’d you do that??” Just wanted to share a great Easter memory.
Michele says
That’s something those kids will always remember -- good story!
Blowing out the inside of an egg takes real talent! I’ve tried it before for a kids art project or something. I remember thinking it was impossible. I finally had to turn the job over to my son.
Lauren says
I wanted to make the eggs where you hollow them out, dye them, then fill them with confetti and smash them on your head! I just cut to the chase and threw confetti at myself.
Mom, did Dad hollow the egg Keren drew on or did she? You should take a photo of that for me and I’ll post it.
Michele says
YES Lauren! That WAS the reason we were blowing out egg insides -- now I remember! David was in third grade and they did indeed fill them with confetti. Parents hid them out on the school property then called the kids out to find them. And there WAS smashing on heads -- I think I have pictures. Thanks Lauren for rocking this old brain of mine. I wonder sometimes if someone has secretly blown out some of MY brain insides!
Karla says
No doubt they blew in one ear and brains came out the other! 😉
Lauren's dad says
Keren blew the egg out. Hey, I looked at the name, and got it right!
Lauren says
Woo-hoo! (about the name 🙂 )
Still send me a photo if you can. I’ve got nuthin’ to talk about for tomorrow.
