Long ago in my Martha Stewart-worship days, I used to get super-jazzed about wrapping presents. I had some of the most beautiful wrapping paper ever created – a thick, textured paper with gorgeous floral scroll-work and gold embossing (everything is better when it’s gold, remember). It’s just lovely stuff, and the photo does not do it justice.
I’ve had a scrap of it for a few years, and every so often I cut off a little to use for a tiny present or something, but this little bit is all that’s left. (If you ever find anymore, snatch it up and I’ll pay you double for.)
Now, a different situation: Ever since the bat bug episode, our bed has floated in the middle of the room in a sea of paranoia, and I can’t use my wall lamp. Instead, I’ve been using a bare bulb that has a switch on the cord so I can turn it off from bed when I’m done reading. I like this lazy arrangement, but Lloyd has repeatedly pointed out how horrible it looks. Ok, ok. How’s this?
Now we can all be happy. For now.
Brad says
Do you suppose that when Lloyd pointed out how bad the bare light bulb looked, what he might have had in mind was to move the bed closer to the wall lamps so you could use them again?
Lloyd says
It doesn’t look like the old lamps are that far away, but it’s deceiving. When you reach up to turn them off, you don’t think that it’s just far enough away to make you dislocate your shoulder. It is.

Did you cut some vents in the top of the plastic light can to let any hot air escape? I’m just worried that the plastic might melt, or the paper catch fire. Vents would let air circulate up through the can, and help keep the bulb cooler.
Lauren says
Right….. vents…….
Mark says
Did that not come across well? I could read the “Right…vents….” as sarcasm or as a statement of agreement.
If the latter, just use a drill and a 1/2 drill bit. From your description, it sounds like the plastic is thick enough that a drill bit would be the easiest way to punch some holes in the top.
And mom is right. If the treatment was good, the bugs are gone. Don’t let their ghosts keep you from enjoying your house.
Lauren says
It was the realization that I should have made the vents. 😀
Mark says
Then again, if its one of those cooler energy efficient bulbs (CFL), then heat probably isn’t an issue.
Lauren says
…. and -- vented. Thanks for the tip. I was actually thinking that since it was a CFL and it was only on 20 minutes or so it wouldn’t be a big deal, but this was clearly the safer option. 🙂

Looks to me like the lovely lamp complements your beautiful new windows!
Lauren's mom says
I really believe the bugs are long gone.

Very Victorian, castle-like.
