This was a pleasantly balanced weekend – a good mix of being busy and sitting around. I got some house things done, Lloyd and I did some ‘dreaming about how to build the new CDC if it someday happens’ (He did all the good dreaming. You can see some inspiration here and add to it if you like.) Most importantly, though, he cleaned the gutters.
I can’t remember the last time we cleaned them. We almost didn’t get it done this weekend, due to a sneaky nap on Saturday and rainy skies on Sunday. But the rain stopped and we weren’t sleepy. (I say ‘we’ because that wheelbarrow doesn’t move itself, y’know.)
There was a fair amount of sludge in the actual gutters, and Lloyd said, “I don’t know if these gutter guards are even worth it. Maybe I won’t put them back on.”
I responded, “Are you kidding? They’re worth it just for catching those maple seeds.”
He agreed, for I am always right.

Shouldn’t there be some sort of fire involved in cleaning gutters? I bet those maple seed thingies would burn pretty good.

In the early morning Lauren did utter,
Today’s the day we clean the gutter,
So Lloyd climbed high to clear the clutter,
The dried leaves now all free to flutter,
But then Lloyds face melted like butter,
Lauren exclaimed…What’s the mutter,
What good are these guards,he did sputter,
Oops, I’m all out of rhyms…dudder.
Lloyd says
“What’s the mutter” is my favorite.
Lauren says
Agreed! That is a fantastic poem!

I was thinking about putting gutter guards in like those. I cleaned out a down spout on Saturday and found a live bird sitting on three unhatched eggs. The bird got disturbed when it saw a garden house coming after it. Scared the crap out of me. Stupid grackles.
Lloyd says
These are a pain in the neck to put on and take off, but they keep leaves and any large debris out of the gutter, and we have LOTS of debris around our house.

we have horrible gutters, I am sure I should clean them, but then again I don’t have a basement, so I don’t have the fear of it flooding, and really, its nice for the rain to have a nice unencumbered wooooosh down my roof!
