…….. but who are we kidding?
I would like this post to come across in the most positive, ‘put the best construction on everything’ way and not sound like I am being high-and-mighty, so please remember that.
I was looking at Facebook this morning and read this:
(You should know that Seward Swap Shop is our Facebook yard sale-type group. You post things you want to sell.)
Um, what?
I looked at it again and also her profile picture. She seemed young. I didn’t want to immediately jump to the ‘kids these days are becoming incapable of correct speech/writing’ conclusion (although it did), so I looked through her profile to see if she actually might have a disability. I am unsure. Several of her other posts also have weird misspellings.
Anyway, I went ahead and sent her a private message:
I got a reply:
I think I see at least part of the problem. Someone is using the speech-to-text feature of their phone and is not proof reading AT ALL. I should take the message to heart: rered what you rite.
Kris says
Literally laughing out loud. Occasionally, we get a text like this from Haley. Between her atrocious spelling and her phone’s auto-correct, sometimes we have no earthly idea what she’s trying to tell us. I applaud your deciphering abilities:)
Brad says
I applaud your deciphering abilities as well. I didn’t know what some of those sentences meant.
Is there such a thing as a “free” section of the swap shop?
Lloyd says
I was so lost too. I thought they were random words.
Kristi says
Oh, please be that person. I find myself constantly correcting people’s grammar. Mentally, of course. Unless it is my own child. Then I correct her almost every single time.
Lauren's mom says
I am constantly groaning at the spelling of the names of some of the newborns in this area. The latest was “Emaneuel”.
And then there was the Mexican lady who named her child Female….pronounced like tamale. 🙁
Kris says
A few years ago, a woman in our area named her baby girl, “Klowee”…aka “Chloe.” If you’re still spelling your baby’s name using phonics, you might be too young to have a child:)
