Our playground mulch is gone. Time and wind has erased it from the space. When the snow is there, it doesn’t matter, but once the ice melts, there is a huge expanse of slippery mud. One of our staff people and her husband got a local tree guy to donate a big pile of mulch that had been a living tree just hours earlier.
The kids helped spread it out wheelbarrow load by wheelbarrow load, It took about an hour and a half.
And that, gentle readers, is why my back is sore.

Your time with them is like one big Life Skills class! Sometimes I’m envious. Then I remember that they are very tiny and very young and I’m glad you’re working with them instead of me.

Is ‘gentle reader’ a reference to an advice columnist? I seem to remember someone who called her readers that. Was it Miss Manners? If so, then I’ve got a question for you…
Lauren says
I think you’re right -- it’s from some column long ago. Ask me your question! I give terrible advice! 🙂
