I had planned to make a big pot of chili over the weekend but never got around to it. Tonight I had a meeting after work, but I came home and frantically tried to throw one together. It was going to be huge – meat, onion, two cans of beans and three cans of tomatoes.
I was in such a rush, I just opened cans and dumped the contents in, not even bothering to pry back the lid.
Ooooopen/dump: beans!
Ooooopen/dump: tomatoes!
Ooooopen/dump: beans!
Ooooopen/dump: tomatoes!
Ooooopen/dump: tomato water! Er, a lot of tomato water! Where the heck are the tomatoes oh dang it that’s beef broth.
Dang. Dangdangdang. Now I had a watery pot of pre-chili with not enough tomato flavor and extra weird beef flavor. Solution? Ketchup.
Taste?
No.
Not a solution. A very, very terrible addition.
Good thing there’s a big ol’ vat of it. Bleh.
Brad says
Instead of adding ketchup, why didn’t you just take the beef broth back out again?
Lauren says
You are hilarious.
Deborah says
Extra beef flavor can’t be that bad. The wateryness may be an issue. Just keep adding stuff and see what happens.
Kristi says
Let the water boil away some; that should help with the amount of water in it.
