A month or so ago I noticed that Ralph had a pretty bad case of feline acne. (It’s not acne like we get – they’re little black bumps caused by bacteria.) I’d been working on it by changing their food bowls regularly and scrubbing his chin with hydrogen peroxide. Well, wouldn’t you know it – Emme had it, too. I’d been washing both of their chins for a couple of weeks now, but decided it was time to call in the big guns.
This morning, we all went to the vet. Lloyd and I put Ralph in the big carrier and zipped Emme in the ukulele bag, but as soon as we got outside, Emme started jumping around inside the uke bag. Poor kid. In the car, we crammed them both in the big carrier and that seemed to work out fine.
In the waiting room, they were silent. A couple brought in their poor little cat, Ozzie, who meowed and meowed. He was really sick and hadn’t eaten for a couple of weeks. Poor little Ozzie – I hope he’s alright.
Once in the exam room we unzipped the carrier. Emme wouldn’t come out – she flattened herself as low as she could go and tried to become one with the bag. Not Ralph – he was all over the room exploring, rubbing up against everyone and everything and SO HAPPY to be somewhere that was not our house. He had extra love for Dr. Ron – I’m sure because he is so grateful for him saving his eyeball.
It’s nice taking nice cats to the vet. No muzzles for this crew.

What was the prognosis?

We have a tube of stuff for their chins. As it turns out, Wally has it, too. I think I might shave their chins like Dr. Ron recommended. Not so the medicine will be easier to apply -- just because they will look ridiculous.

How about a goatee? Or would that be a cat-ee ?
Mom says
I didn’t realize you could shave a cat. Do be careful for yourself and the cat.

I have a tiny nail scissors with rounded tips. It has worked out surprisingly well but they don’t look very silly, darn it. 😉
