The Center is not done. They haven’t put the countertops in yet so there aren’t any appliances. The flooring is in most of the rooms but not the kitchen, hallway or office-y areas. The baseboard just got put in carpeted areas today. The playground is coming along but they just started to put in the fence.
The long and short of it is I was fairly hopeful last week that we would just squeak by, but on Monday the crushing, crushing despair that we couldn’t have the health and sanitation or licensing inspection happen was apparent. We still had the fire marshal come through, but there are things to fix.
So there we are. We are in our building for a while longer and have told the school-age parents that we can’t provide care for them until this is done. That was also crushing. Some were rightfully mad, some were anxious and some were understanding. It just sucks.
The normal August-is-the-worst-time-of-the-year is just compounded. Don’t call to console me – I’m too busy. And don’t hand me depression pamphlets, Sam. I’m not depressed, just busy and exhausted.
Brad says
Sorry to hear about the missed deadline. So many things were working against it. I hope the rest of August passes super quickly for you.
Lauren's mom says
Even if everything was done, it probably would be the inspections that would stand in the way of opening on time. Those will nearly always find something wrong. So,….this, too, shall pass. (No pun intended.)
Kris says
So sorry, Lauren. You (and so many others) have poured so much into this project. Praying for peace of mind and perspective…
