I wrote three things down on my pocket list to remember to do tonight at home, and I actually did them. (That’s always chancy. When I get home, I’m kind of dead to the world.) I remembered to grab matches for the Advent wreath, I printed that thing, and I tried an experiment!
A long time ago I saw a hippy plastic wrap alternative – beeswax-infused fabric that you can wrap around stuff like cheese or over a bowl. (Not meat, though, because when you wash it you have to use cool water.) You wrap it around whatever and the heat of your hands helps it mold to the shape. I thought it would be interesting to make a few so the children could practice ‘wrapping’ presents without using up all the paper and tape in the world.
Some nice online people said that grating the beeswax was the way to go. Luckily I still have beeswax from the lotion bar days.
Grate grate grate.
Sprinkle sprinkle sprinkle.
Melt melt melt.
You let it cool, then wrap away! It is So. Much. Fun. I started to wrap everything.
It’s kind of magical how it stays put.
I just kept wrapping things and handing them to Lloyd. Books! The remote! A roll of tape!
Scissors!
Lloyd likes how they smell.
I’m really glad I gave him those scissors.

So cool!

So you can reuse it again and again?
Lauren says
Yes, you can. I should have said that. Silly me. 🙂
Brad -- it kind of smells honey-ish?
UPDATE: It was pretty successful. I had to demonstrate it a few times, but once I started ‘guessing’ what they wrapped they were all on board. It leaves a tiny bit of a residue on things but it’s all good. I need some Christmas-y fabric! 🙂
Brad says
What does beeswax smell like?
Lauren's dad says
You asked for this! -- Beeswax.
Brad says
Ha! Yes, I should have known.
