Trust me, you are not going to be impressed.
1. My kids were doing Eric Carle work, which I love.
2. The 500th anniversary of the Reformation is coming up. (It’s on NCIS – watch the episode online! It’s the only episode I’ve ever seen!)
3. I thought we should make something.
So, I sat down with my class and said how we were going to make a big Luther Rose. “What’s that?” I said, then showed them a picture…..then realized that I had no idea what the symbols stood for. We talked about the pretty colors while I scrambled to read the non-child-friendly explanation. “We’ll get back to this,” I said.
So, we painted our pieces, mixing color and scratching designs, just like Eric Carle. Later we used gobs of glue to stick it all together, and it looked just fine.
I took some artistic license and came up with a ditty about it, then asked Lloyd to make it better. He did. Thanks, editor.
It’ll do.
Luther’s Seal (or “Luther’s Rose”)
A cross on a heart on a flower in the sky,
A golden ring around them and here’s the reason why:
The cross is for Jesus, the heart is for love,
The flower reminds us of faith from above.
The blue of the sky is so joyful and free!
The ring has no end – just like God’s love for me!
