It is the Week of the Young Child, and we have been having some different dress-up days. Today was tie-dye day, and since I do not own any tie-dyed things, I decided we would do the fake ‘permanent marker and rubbing alcohol’ thing. You just draw on a plain white T-shirt with permanent markers then spray it with rubbing alcohol. That causes the color to bleed out and looks quite like tie-dye.
One of my boys brought in a dinosaur shirt and did the absolute most splendid job I’ve ever seen. He just laid color all over that shirt and after we sprayed it it was magnificent! Bonus points for having two T-rexes trying to high-five each other.
UPDATE: I have since learned that heat-setting the ink by running it in a hot dryer for 15 minutes or so helps it set. It should still be washed & dried on its own until you know for sure.

Excellent!

Hooray for the easy way! We’ve had kids get sprayed in the face by the dye — no fun to clean up.

That looks like fun!
