Emotions, actions and people

November 7, 2022 by Lauren 2 Comments

Boy, I’m really not good at updating this when things are busy, and it seems like it’s going to be busy for a while longer.

The pat week was jam-packed with two things: Professor ‘Dad’ Marten’s funeral on Thursday, and a birthday/anniversary celebration for my Aunt Ruth and Uncle David in St. Louis on Saturday.

We had a lot of home prep to do for two rounds of company, which was absolutely delightful. Todd came on Wednesday, and that was the day of the visitation and a choir rehearsal (which I didn’t attend due to laryngitis caused by acid reflux), and then a bunch of people came over to the house to connect and reminisce. That was really fun.

Thursday Kathryn came in (toting some high school students here for a choral event at Concordia), and the actual funeral. It was amazing. I sat with the choir even though I could just squeak out breathy sounds. I can’t write well enough about it – the sermon was perfect, the singing was tearily beautiful, and it was a holy sending full of tears, laughs and music. Afterwards there was a luncheon and then back to our house for more visiting (and a fair amount of drinking).

Friday was work, then we met with my sister and her husband in Iowa. That was delightful! She lives close enough now that we can actually just drive and meet up! We sat in the hot tub and visited, then conked out. Saturday morning, Lloyd got up early to get to St. Louis to visit his uncle in the hospital, and I caravanned with Keren and Kurt. We went to the celebration and saw SOOOOOO much family! I saw cousins that I hadn’t seen in decades! It was a truly delightful party and I’m so glad we went. Afterward, we went back to our hotel with Jacob (Keren’s son) and Rachel & Matthew (Mark’s family). There was more wonderful visiting and it was great.

Sunday, we drove home. The only snag in this weekend is that the laryngitis became a cold from all my sick kids, so that was a bummer. My prayer is that no one else gets sick.

Ok. On to the week. If you read this whole thing, you get a prize!

It was such a busy week. I’ve wanted to blog for weeks, but there doesn’t seem to be a slow-down any time soon.

Thanks so much for hosting the A Cap family this last week. You and Lloyd are the best!

    You travel so often now!

Sorry to hear you’re sick. I was just talking with my students today about how I don’t get sick as much lately. Hopefully I didn’t jinx it by saying something…
