Finally eating the old, dry crumbs.

October 7, 2019 by Lauren 2 Comments

We have had a package of dehydrated camping food in the cupboard for over a year. Fortunately, this stuff is ready for the apocalypse, so Lloyd decided to have it for lunch.

Lloyd followed the directions to the letter.

Ok, technically he just opened the envelope. I measured and boiled the water. He remembered to take out the oxygen absorber. Yeah, what?

Boil boil boil. Pour pour pour.

Soak soak soak.

You have to seal it up first, but that’s not as good of a photo. After it has hydrated, eat up, bud.

Lloyd’s review: “The stew was adequate. I would eat it again if I was camping, or if it was some time after the zombie apocalypse or maybe the zombie calypso.”

Thank you, Other Sommerers.

We got a call from Sam after church. He said that someone had left some junk by the curb and one of the items was a hammock stand. Really? You know my motto: If it’s free, it’s me.

We loaded it in the truck and on the patio. I hooked up one of my many hammocks and made Lloyd test it out. (By the way, I had it attached super-wrong.)

It’s so nice! My stupid trees had the nerve to be planted way too far apart, so I have never had the chance to hammock outside in my own yard. Now no more! I had to go to CPR training this afternoon, but upon my return, I relaxed in my own little paradise. Swaying on my hammock, reading a book, listening to the wind….. ahhhhhh………

Inside, people relax in different ways. Lloyd plays ‘kill the zombies’ games and Ralph vies for his attention.

That boy is messed up.

November 12, 2018 by Lauren 3 Comments

Lloyd is a mess. He had a cold last week that made him rather zombie-like, then he had to go to Missouri for a board meeting at St. Paul. He came home on Saturday and slept from 4 in the afternoon until almost 8:30, then got up for food and medicine. He stayed up until midnight, then got up at 5a.m.to write his sermon for the nursing home THAT DAY (because that’s his M.O.). He slept the afternoon away then stayed up until 12:30 last night. He came to get me from work at 7, after he had been sleeping, and went right back to sleep.

Maybe he’ll wake up as a beautiful butterfly.

Caturday

May 27, 2017 by Lauren 1 Comment

It’s rainy here. I talked to my parents this morning – they are both in good spirits. Mom has been doing her physical therapy despite the pain, and it quite the trooper. Dad is the best example of a loving husband that anyone could ask for. We had some good talks, and then I sat by the window and watched the rain with Wally and Ralph.

Then Emme came along and photobombed us.

It was quite peaceful, once we were in our assigned places.

Oh. Lloyd is downstairs watching his zombie show. He doesn’t know peace.

Her ignorance, my gain.

May 21, 2017 by Lauren 6 Comments

First off, my mom is doing well. Thank you so much for the prayers! Her fracture is right at the top of her left femur. They put a rod in from her hip to her knee, pinned it and wrapped mesh around the rest of the bone. She was up with a walker Sunday, which is crazy to me! She may get to go home Monday, but it will be several weeks of rehabilitation. God is good!

Lloyd had graduation on Sunday, so I went on some errands. One of them was to stop at Aldi’s and look at their stuff. I also bought cheap eggs, milk, soup, honey, flower, and this thing.

What’s that? It’s not a knife…..

IMG_7130

It’s a folding saw! It will come in handy for both camping and a zombie apocalypse.

I did not buy the bag of oranges. As I was checking out, one of the employees was showing them to the cashier. She thought something was wrong with them since they were misshapen. I said, “Well, they used to be flowers. Something weird must have happened to the flower. I’m sure they’re fine.”

IMG_7131

She said, “Really?”

I shrugged. “I’m just guessing.”

She seemed crushed. “I wish you were sure. I’m just going to throw them out. Do you want them?” Not one to turn down free food, I refrained from reassuring her and took them.

I also doctored them up.

By the way, they were just fine,

I shall leave him a poor review.

October 12, 2016 by Lauren 3 Comments

A friend has been borrowing my truck for some work he’s doing. I don’t mind at all because Lloyd drops me off in the morning and – if I call him – picks me up. (Sometimes I walk home if the weather’s nice. I enjoy that.)

The other day, though, it was chilly. I called and got his voice mail. I started walking and called again. I kept walking and called again – I knew he was home. Finally he picked up. I heard the sounds of his dumb zombie game in the background. “I don’t know why I didn’t hear my phone. It’s right here.” Um, yeah.

By the time he got to me, I was almost home.

Worst. Uber. Ever.
