A little experiment

January 15, 2009

Lauren

So, 9 p.m. rolled around again and I wandered around the house looking for some post fodder so I could go to bed.  Unfortunately it’s the biggest cold snap of the season and I left my point-and-shoot thermometer at school.   I took some pictures of the kitchen windows using my probe thermometer, and was surprised at how cold it was behind the towels ‘curtains’.

Burrzy wurrzy.

Yep, ‘Lo’.  It only reads to 32 degrees.  (It’s 66 on this side of the towel curtain. Dnag it!)  Time for an experiment! We’ll see if a shot glass of water will freeze on the window sill.  In the control group, I’ll also put a shot glass on a non-towel-covered window, rare though those may be in this house.   Brad, I’m sure you’ll be up before the results are posted.

Freeze, my little one, freeze.

UPDATE: Riddle me this.  It didn’t freeze – not even a little on the top.  Was the window sill too warm?  That’s my guess, since hte water itself is below 32.  Hmmph.

Lonely little post here is your first comment! At 3:30 AM -18 degrees here in Indiana. Wind chill is -36. Mr. Wizard and Bill Nye have nothing on you! Make sure that the ice doesn’t go to waist … it is in a shot glass you know.

Idiot … I spelled waste wrong. I shouldn’t be posting at this time of the morning before the caffeine fix.

Dang. How did I allow Karla to beat me to first comment? 🙂 Now I’ll have to get up earlier.

12 degrees here. It’s cold for Baltimore. I’m a little worried about some of the borderline hardy plants I grow outside.

Doesn’t that thermometer read 122F? Good grief, you’ve blocked all the sun-provided heat out of your house with those towels curtains. Let the heat in my friend, before Lloyd freezes to death!! 😉

Oh, and that little flower down there, below all the comments, between posts -- that’s my favorite between post pic. 😀

Ha -- you funny! I thought about explaining that in my post, so I’ll do it now:

Nah, the 122 is the part of the thermometer that you can set, say if you have a turkey that would be done at 165. When the temperature on the left matches the one on the right, it goes off like a LOUD smoke alarm.

Experiment #2: Sit Lloyd on the window sill over night.
