First concert - check!

First concert – check!

November 14, 2009

Lauren, Lloyd

Lloyd’s choir had their first concert of the weekend in Beatrice, Nebraska tonight. (It’s pronounced ‘Bee-AT-riss’ around these parts, credited to a brass-voiced railroad conductor. It’s also the birthplace of Gene L. Coon, creator of the Klingons. Thank you, Wikipedia.)

They sang very well! No pictures, because I was self-conscious with my camera. The concert was a collection of American songs & hymns that were beautiful. In the past the choir has sung difficult, traditional Lutheran music – motets and whatnot – but I liked these songs. Simple, well-sung – one was so moving, it made me cry. Brad, you should have been there. Oh, wait – you were. (We texted during intermission.)

I did some shopping in Beatrice, which will be a future post. All in all, an enjoyable evening, even though there were no Klingons.

That banner reminds me of the church at Arron’s first call in Lake Zurich IL. Above the door, as you were walking outside, was painted, “You are now entering the mission field.” I’ve seen that message in other places (our current church has small signs as you leave the parking lot), but it’s never been as powerful to me as it was in Lake Zurich.

I was watching a kung fu movie. It was awesome. There was no singing though. Except during the credits there was a sad, sad song. Because the main character man and woman didn’t get together. Because one of them died. Because that’s what happens in kung fu movies.

I love concerts…and I’m with you…I prefer songs that are simple-ish…I have teared many a time over a well sang song! (or is it sung song)

Did you record any of it on your phone?

This is being sent from my big laptop!
How about posting a photo of the program so that we know what selections were sung? Thank you!
