Lauren wanted to go to Omaha a little early today, and since I was going to be dragged (again) to ukulele night, I figured it didn’t matter exactly when the dragging began.
Well it turned out that Lauren wants a new dining room table. She runs into the corners of our current table and pretends like it hurts. She even puts makeup on her legs to make it look like bruises. So we were off to Nebraska Furniture Mart to see what our options were. Did you know that they make triangular tables now?
Triangular tables wouldn’t actually help her, because she really wants to decrease the pointiness of the table, not increase it. So we’re really looking for something with more than 4 sides: pentagons, hexagons, octagons and circles. This leads us quite naturally to the poker tables. I was really excited about this, because these tables would be great for Settlers of Catan. But I expected the idea to float like a lead balloon. But no, Lauren was surprisingly on board with it, and we spent some time trying to see which one would work best.
Before making a final decision, we thought we’d look at the clearance section. We saw a couple of the outrageously expensive round tables for quite a bit less money, but no poker tables. We were about to leave and head over to Ukulele Night, when my spidey senses started tingling.
We went back to the furthest reaches of the store, and only saw oddly expensive patio furniture. But, on our way out, there were racks holding about a dozen table tops. Did we need a whole table? We already had a perfectly serviceable table bottom. Tomorrow we go back to Omaha with the truck to pick up our $99.00 table top.
Don’t tell Lauren, but I think one of those game tables would fit over it nicely.
