New favorite iPhone App

December 12, 2010 by Lauren 19 Comments

I like the whole Oh Come Oh Come Immanuel done with just a few hand bells and otherwise acappella. And I was going to try that on next Friday for chapel, but we don’t have any hand bells at school. Rather than try to borrow some, I thought that I would see that was available on the old iPhone.

There’s a neat app called Holiday Bells. It has a great set of jingle bells that play when you shake the phone, but that didn’t help me any. It also has hand bells. But although they sound great, they didn’t go quite low enough for what I had in mind.

However, it turns out that out that Lauren absolutely loved the app, and, after about 37 seconds, was doing things with it that I didn’t know could be done. Here’s one of her early arrangements.

She’s taking some cold medicine then makes her hands tremble. She’s really not as nervous as she looks.

    You. Are. Awesome. More, please.

My favorite Christmas commercial is the one by Hershey’s Kisses, where the kisses are handbells and playing “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.” It is my absolute favoritest.

I like that commercial too Kristi! I always thought it was so clever!

That is excellent Lauren! Did you just figure out what bells to play or are they marked somehow? (I stand in awe of your musical ability!)

There is a mode that puts a little snowflake next to the next note to play, but it is only the melody line (one snowflake at a time).

You know the guy who wrote the Trader Joe’s song made that commercial.

Is that a giant magnifying glass that has been duck-taped above the phone?

I think that’s the camera used to make the video.

    That was awesome.

I just went to a bell concert last night at my friend’s church and every year it reminds me how much I enjoy bells.

I suppose if I hauled my carcass to church more reliably I could, among other advantages, hear the bells more frequently.

Also, I suspect you won’t be running out of steak seasoning any time soon.

It’s a good thing too. I really love both of those seasonings.

Is there an app for bugles? I’d like to hear “Bugler’s Holiday” please.
