Brad talked about taxes and the trouble he had with how long to keep the old records. Last year I did the absolute worst job keeping track of our bills and papers. I didn’t even try to file them or keep them in the same spot – I’d just set them down in one of four areas and would say, “I’ll get to them later”.
Well, tax time is nearly upon us and we’re probably going to have a problem. In past years I’ve recycled an old accordion file from 10 years back or so, but this year I needed two – one for 2011 and one to get it in gear for 2012. I found one from 1996! Zowie – 16 years ago!
It was fun looking through the papers – I found out we used to have a Visa card that I have no memory of owning. We had receipts from stores in Seward that don’t exist anymore: Hinky Dinky (a little grocery story), Pamida (a discount store) and the old little Wal*Mart that used to sell boxes of Kleenex for 62 cents. 62 cents, I tell you!!!
I was at risk of being lost in memories, so I bagged the papers and receipts up and am looking forward to a date with the firepit sometime in the future.
I’m impressed that you made a trip to Wal-mart for under $ 20 regardless of the year. Not to mention that from the looks of that receipt, you stuck to your bathroom/pet care essentials list and didn’t come home with a cornhusker beanbag chair or George Foreman grill!
I forget it sometimes, but you’ve lived in Seward as long as I’ve lived in Baltimore.
My shoeboxes only go back to 1996, but I worked in Seattle for three years, so there should be three more shoeboxes. I don’t think I have them.
Our tax papers are the accountant’s. A fire flared up in the building on Friday night. I heard that none of the files are lost. Some may have some water damage. And, its the last time I’ll take them to the accountant without scanning them into the computer or making paper copies. Dumb!
UGGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! I hate tax time! H.A.T.E.!!
I’m all for a flat tax. Unless someone can convince me why that’s not a good idea.
So what color nail polish did Lloyd buy?
Ha! 😀
Hinky Dinky is no more?!? What!?!?!?!?
The building is still there, but it is now called the very non-rhyme-y ‘Sun Mart’. Bleh.
