22

August 21, 2014 by Lauren 9 Comments

Happy Anniversary, Lloyd!

Lloyd and I tied the knot in 1992, 22 years ago. We never do anything special for our anniversaries except for ordering Chinese food and renting a movie, and in the past we’ve even skipped the movie in favor of falling asleep early. What idiots get married at the start of a school year when they’re teachers? Stupid stupid stupid.

I had decided earlier in this year that this year we were going to do something special. 20 or 25 years don’t matter so much to me, but 22 is significant. Why?

We were married on the 22nd.
We had been dating 22 months.
We were both 22.
At this point, being 44 years old, we have been married for half our our lives. (Not exactly, but let’s not get too technical about it all.)

The bonus is that our anniversary falls on a Friday this year, so I had notions of actually going somewhere and spending a bit of cash on An Event!

…. and then we bought a Prius.

Ok. The cash flow has been diverted to a vehicle, but luckily there are tons of people on the interwebs who have written about using their Prius as a camper! And who loves tiny little campers? Why, I do! I love them very, very much!!

…. and Friday is forecasted to be the hottest and muggiest day of the summer.

…. and we are both very tired when we get home.

…. and I don’t exactly know where we would go camping.

So, there’s that. If there isn’t a post Friday night, we found somewhere to sleep in the car for the night.

…. maybe in the driveway.

You could always just turn on the car air conditioner if it gets too hot. That would probably use up the battery pretty fast though. Or would the engine start burning gas? Wait… could you cool your whole house with your car air conditioner for a cheaper cost than using your regular air conditioning unit?

They actually say that’s the magic of camping in the Prius – you leave the AC or heat running. The car runs off the battery and the engine turns on a few times during the night to recharge it, apparently using about a gallon of gas for the night. I don’t know how Lloyd will react to getting 0 miles for that gallon, though.

Some guy rigged up a system to use his Prius as an emergency generator for his house. Too complicated for me.

Happy, Happy Anniversary you two!! God created a wonderful match when He presided over your marriage!
To celebrate your 22’s, a simple campout by water! You name it–Big Blue, Branched Oak, Plum Creek…..some place where the water could be heard from your “camper”. 🙂 You will make the ultimate correct decision.
May many, many more happy anniversaries be in your future!!
