Beth is cat-sitting for someone, but had to go out of town for a funeral. She asked if I would check in on the little guy.
Would I? Would I? Why wouldn’t I? Sweet widdle Wussel, I mean, Russel. (Honestly, could they have picked a cuter name?)

Lloyd’s dad gave us a bunch of old newspapers from when Lloyd was in high school. We spent some time looking through them tonight. It was fun looking a few decades into the past, and we might make a few different posts about them.
I was interested in a regular series where they interviewed a young homemaker. The stories were fun to read and the recipes were interesting, too. There’s a recipe for grape juice, for crying out loud!
I read the papers as I ate leftovers straight out of the pan. A homemaker I am not.

Well, it’s almost time for the Lighted Christmas Parade again, and we are running a little behind in our preparations. It doesn’t help that the forecast is supposed to be very cold – the high next Saturday is only going to be 31. I hope we have a good number of kids turn out.
Anyway, this weekend was spent getting the float out of the storage shed and assessing the damage. Last year we bought all new wheels, but this year we needed two more since they went flat and won’t hold any air.
On the plus side, when I was buying tires, I bought myself a new drill! It’s smaller and lighter than our other drills. I hurt my elbow last year with all the lifting and drilling at awkward angles, so I think I’ll write this purchase off for medical reasons. 😉
So, here we go.
I had to go to a six-hour training on Saturday. After that, Lloyd, Sam and Gracen helped get the float out of the storage shed and take it to school. The float has two flat, unfixable tires. DANG IT. That means I have to buy more tires for that stupid thing tomorrow and figure out some better ways to streamline the whole process.
It makes me as mad as a Wally look-alike when somebody puts a helpless guinea pig in his bed.
Remember the drawers? Well, they are still working out splendidly. I’d go so far as to say that they are the coolest thing in my room. However, sometimes we have a tiny problem.
This morning the littlest doll from the nesting doll set was missing.
So was the turtle shell.
Um, we found them. The turtle shell was under the cots and the little person? Well, let’s just say I’m glad I have a set of giant forceps tweezers from Harbor Freight.
(This photo was taken mid-birth.)

I have to sit by a certain little boy at naptime and it is the farthest spot from the window. On cloudy days it is too dark to read a story from a book, so I read from my iPad. I read through the Storybook Bible and needed something else, so I cheaped out and downloaded a free e-book from Amazon. It is a volume of fairy tales. Some are a little gruesome for the preschool set, so I’ve only read Rumpelstiltskin and the Frog Prince. Today I kept stopping and shaking my head.
Good. Freakin’. Grief. I know that is a free book, so that means it’s probably self-published, but don’t you have to get something edited before you do that?
I feel bad being upset because the author is a little old grandma in the UK, but it’s just so weird. The reviews on Amazon were so complimentary, I left a poor review. I don’t think I was mean, but I questioned the editing.
There. I’m letting it go.
