It was another episode of ‘What’s that weird smell’ in my house.
I need to move.

‘Acoustics’ is not spelled with two ‘c’s like I think it should be spelled. Nope, one c. I think it every time I type it, which is a LOT. I type it a lot because I am obsessing over the way that the rooms in the new CDC are so dang echo-y. I have a plan (later post), but I am concerned that it will not be sufficient in the long-term.
So.
So I obsess. I obsess about acoustic panels and acoustic tile and homemade acoustic tile and I Google acoustic panels on the cheap and I search the free craigslist section for ‘acoustic’ and just get a bunch of guitars. I am mildly freaking out because money is rather tight and I want this issue solved right now for no money. I search for ‘acoustic grant’ and just keep getting that 2008 article about that dumb cafeteria. I see how you can glue cut pieces of wood – or even burnt pieces of wood! – for beautiful acoustic panels and then my ADHD brain goes nuts. So I drink a little whiskey at night so I can sleep, and then when I wake up at 5 I am already thinking about acoustics and money and playgrounds and carts and grants.
Obsessing is hard.

Here’s a new teacher doing it right. I hope he keeps his enthusiasm. 🙂

A long time ago Lloyd bought me a bag of gems because he knows I have the soul of a dragon. No jewelry for me, please, just a bag of sparkly treasure.
Brad was packing up tonight and had his laser pointer that was left here this summer. As it turns out, lasers and gems are a fantastic combination.
The dining room was a disco, sans music.
Safe, sparkly travels, Brad. We will miss you very much.

We do not yet have full possession of the new CDC, but we do have permission to start moving non-essential items into it. Yesterday and today we had some hours to move things over. My director’s garage, some areas of the old center, and most importantly – my house – are now emptied. Hooray!
Remember the surplus auctions and the IKEA trip? That stuff, along with the phones for the new place, are finally out of my house!
Here is what my living room has looked like for a couple of months:
I would show the ‘after’, but I think I’d like to clean it up first. Trust me, it is roomier.
The basement before:
And after….
We put it all out on the driveway to clean it up before we hauled it over. We looked like we were having a garage sale for children.
One step closer!

(Lauren here. Lloyd had a few gin & tonics at the Royuk after-committal gathering. And by a few, I mean a LOT. He was very, very chatty on the car ride home. Thank you, Samith, Rachel and Sam for tolerating him. When we got home I asked him if he’d like to write tomorrow’s post. He was game. Here is the unedited post:)
Lauren asked me if I wanted to write the [post for today, and I asya I was pressyy suryre that I could write one sentance.
So here is my one sentence: “Ron Royuks’ family knows how to send a soul to heaven.”
That’s my sentence, and I’m sticki ng to it.
Take that, Lauren.
