It was a busy day! It started off with Tim’s baptism, which was lovely. (I’m sure Uncle Brad will post more about that on www.bradaptation.com , so I’ll leave it at that.) Welcome to God’s family, Tim!
The rest of the day was spent having lunch at Valentino’s, then getting some work done around the house. Deborah and the girls were coming for dinner, and I wasn’t sure what to make. When in doubt…..
Bacon mats.
I can’t take credit for these. I saw them at instructables.com and thought that they looked pretty dang good. Finally all those years of watching my mom weave pie crust tops have paid off. (I can’t make pie.)
The best part is that they make awesome BLT’s. Cut each mat into fourths, and it’s a solid slab of bacon that stays put on your bread!
Unfortunately, Macy had to stay at Grandma and Grandpa’s because she was sick. Bethany was a hoot, though. I’ll post her photo with Pfennig tomorrow.
Aunt Lolly says
Lauren, That bacon looks so good! How many pounds of bacon made those two mats? My bacon never looks that good.
Lauren says
A package of bacon makes one mat with a couple of slices left over. (The slices are the “cook’s toll” – I eat them!)
Beth says
And once weaved (woven?), how long does one cook a bacon mat? Baked or fried? Details please. Mmmmm…bacon…
Lauren says
The instructables site says to bake it at 400 for 20 – 25 minutes, but I think somewhere between 30 – 40 minutes is better. Take the extra guys out early, though, or they’re toast.
Annette says
And you need toast, right???
Lauren says
Thank you! Thank you! Applaud for the comedy team of Sommerer & Oliverer!!
Brad says
I was THERE, I tell you! It was amazing! The bacon mats are almost beyond description.
Lloyd says
It would be hard to go back to eating a BLT the old way.
Deborah says
I have never experienced such luxury in bacon! It tasted as good as it looks. And what complete coverage on the bread! Lauren is the best!
Charles says
Mmmmmmmm, bacon!
Christina says
It looks so good! I can’t believe it’s not butter.
Lloyd says
Of course, Butter. That’s the only thing that could have made it better (unless the butter was bitter).
