Now that’s what I’m talking about. Friday night was a fall-asleep on the sofa night, Saturday morning was sleeping in and doing a little cleaning. After lunch I told Lloyd, “We’re leaving the house!” We packed up the camping stuff and headed out of Dodge.
I wanted to see that little cabin, and it was a good thing that Lloyd was along or I would have been completely lost. It was by Springfield (Nebraska) and we had to walk to see it. Apparently there is a little community and everyone leases a little piece of land…. for camping!!! They all had ‘cabins’, but some just had a shack and then an RV. The listed cabin was at the end of the walk and it was an adorable dump. The property (leasing for $800 a year) is about as big as a regular yard, but the cabin – living room, kitchen and bathroom – is only a cabin. The walls are sinking and the floors are not level at all. To re-do anything would cost a pretty penny, and you’d probably have to get things up to code. No thanks. Great daydream fodder, though. It was right by a walking bridge, too.
We drove around some more and visited two other state parks. I bought my state park sticker back in January and have only used it once before. I had to get my money’s worth! I scoffed at the people who camp in RVs. The campground itself was very nice, but people are just so close. It’s like camping in a parking lot.
Next we went to a Star-B-Que at the Branched Oak Observatory. It was a fundraiser for the Observatory That No One Knows Exists. It was surprisingly and wonderfully well-attended, so I guess I have to re-name it. We stayed for the food but needed to get to our camping spot before it got too dark, so no star-watching for us.
We got to the campground and it was filled with Cub Scouts and their parents, so there were good, happy sounds as we sat by the fire. It was a marvelous, soul-healing day. Ahhh……

That sounds like an awesome day. Lots of outside time, fun things to look at, and fire. Especially fire.

Finally! I’m happy for you.

And it was a perfect weekend for camping! Way to be all “spur-of-the-moment.”
The fire looks glorious.
