AJAX Comments plugin

October 16, 2006 by Lloyd 3 Comments

Ajax Comments 2.0 is just a neat little plugin that allows people to comment without reloading the whole page. AJAX is short for Asynchronous JavaScript and XML, and is the a catch all for the cool websites that update information without reloading the page. I don’t know if this plugin will play well with some others that I want to install and it will be the first to go if there seems to be a problem, but it is cool.

Rather than trying to describe it, just go ahead and add a comment and you’ll see.

Update:

Sure enough, the next plugin I installed wasn’t compatible with this one. It didn’t break anything, but it doesn’t do anything neat now either. Oh well.

Meta Category

Having worked on a few dozen websites, I know it is easy to forget what changes you have made to the underlying code after a while. In an effort to avoid that with this site, I’ll be documenting the changes to the site itself in this category. As I imagine this sort of information will only be interesting to me (and more for documentation than anything else), The first change to the website was to add a separate category for this type of post (I won’t document each category addition) and then to find a way to not show certain categories of posts on the main page. After a bit of searching, I found the Elegant Category (in)Visibility plugin. It lets you decide how/if each category of post is displayed.

There are lots of neat plugins for WordPress, and that is one of the main reasons we’re using it. I’ll be installing others right quickly.
