Princess Batman

Let’s get ready to gaaammmmmbbblllle!

June 23, 2012 by Lauren 8 Comments

On Friday we took Princess Batman to the vet. She had a weird event in the litter box on Wednesday that made me wonder if her water broke, then on Thursday she had the most awful stench emitting from her butt – I was sure one of the kittens had died inside her. Since the internet just fed my paranoia, it was rough sleeping Thursday night. Bleh.

Anyway, Doctor Dan said she’s fine – it is probably just some digestive weirdness that accompanies pregnancy. He could still hear kittens in there, and his comment in fact was, “Either she’s got a couple really big kittens in there, or a lot of little ones.” (I’m hoping for one mutant giant kitten.)

He also seemed to think that she might have become pregnant when she got out, and would have the kittens within 10 days. I don’t think I agree, because she was never in heat during the time we had her. What do I know, though? I seem to think she could have one giant kitten and still be alright.

So, what say you? When do you think that kitten will come (day), or if you must, how many kittens.

As for me: Monday the 25th, and 1. (actually 5)

Winner gets a kitten!

Slimming look.

Second, third, fourth and fifth place get a kitten!

Cat on a warm, green asphalt roof

May 29, 2012 by Lauren 5 Comments

Last Friday night I fell asleep on the sofa (as is my custom), but when I got up at midnight I opened all the windows as I stumbled up to the bed to let in all the wonderfully cool night air.

Later the next day I went around closing the windows and noticed that the screen was up. I asked Lloyd what was happening and he said, “Yeah. I opened that yesterday.”

Yesterday.

“Where’s the cat?” I asked.

This is a re-enactment.

Having her on the roof wasn’t really the big deal. We used to let Cricket and Pfennig out fairly often – it’s a good way for them to get a little fresh air without having to chase them down when it’s time to come in. Sure, there’s the threat of falling to your death, but that’s nothing for a cat. ‘Just don’t leap after a bird’, that’s what I say. The big deal was all the moths that flew in our house overnight, plus the possibility of bats coming in. (That can no longer happen.)

Another reason it doesn’t bother me: if she’s on the roof she can’t get pregnant.

What?

Er, more pregnant.

We’re not sure.

I guess we’ll know in five weeks if she’s expecting or just fat. There’s no polite way to ask that question, you know.

Good grief. This is who I have become.

May 14, 2012 by Lauren 6 Comments

We have some fairly serious water damage in the ceiling above the stairs. We’ve actually known about it for some time, but it’s not really a problem unless it rains. Plus, at night when the ceiling light is on, all looks normal. When it’s just sunshine, though, the damage can be seen all the way down. I suspect that our ancient chimney needs the mortar fixed, and that the water is seeping in that way. It’s my professional opinion.

I went upstairs to get some photos of the ceiling…..

but there was a cat in the way.

What?

Yes (hanging head in shame), I spent a good 5-10 minutes taking pictures of a stupid cat.

She could leap on my head!

Ho, boy. Sign me up for the crazy cat lady nut house.

Such a dork. Me, not the cat.

I hope they have pudding.

Enough with the photos, human. Fetch me the can of deliciousness.

Lloyd hates that cat.

May 11, 2012 by Lauren 5 Comments

Today was a long day. Our summer program starts up next week and we’re having church together as a Center tomorrow night and I had some time-management problems, so it was a late evening. The evening conspired to make itself later.

Lloyd had a dinner to go to in Lincoln so I went to the Runza drive-thru and sat there for.eh.ver while the car ahead of me waited for their order to arrive. (They must have had some specialty items. “A large order of french fries made out of only long fries, please. Nor shorties or I’m not paying.”‘

Then I pulled over because a large flock of big hawk/raven/death birds were circling, and if it was a harbinger of doom, I wanted a photo.

Swirling as they swarm.

Then there was traffic, so I overshot my regular turn and came to the house from the north. If I had gone the normal way I would have missed the broken branch from the tree in the ‘park’ by our house.

I think carpenter ants and some random gust of wind are to blame. I went over to take pictures, and some neighbors got out of their car and we started talking about how lucky they were that they weren’t parked there when it happened.

Then P.B. walked up.

What the what?

I looked at her, did a double-take and said, “I… I think that’s my cat,” which must have made me sound drunk, then I scooped her up and walked back to the house. Apparently she got out when Lloyd left the house this morning, and no amount of coaxing would get her back inside.

Well, 13 hours did it. I’m glad she didn’t r-u-n-n-o-f-t.

Princess Batman update.

May 7, 2012 by Lauren 5 Comments

So, it’s working out with the cat. While she was super-grumpy at the start and had terrible bathroom manners, time in the house is gentling her and I am so glad that none of you are around to hear me squeal encouragingly in a disgusting talking-to-a-baby voice, “Who covered her poops? Who covered her poooooops?? Good Princess. Good Princess Batman.”

Why Princess Batman? The question is, “Why not Princess Batman?” I only pray that she never gets lost, because I will look like a lunatic calling for her. (I call her P.B., but Lloyd insists on her full title.)

Speaking of all of this, Lloyd loves her.

This was at the start of his cold.

In fact, from the first night I brought her home and through all the days when I was still on the fence, you could see his determination to love this awful cat. I think he may have missed the cats more than I have. (I was only ever in ‘grieve’ mode, not ‘get another cat’ mode.) Despite the fact that she has made a few messes.

During her 'jailed in the bathroom' phase. She learned to cover her poops, yes she did.

She was scared when she knocked it over. Big, big tail.

She still likes to attack him, but it’s become more playful as she realizes that we are not rivals for her food or shelter. After my family left we let her go upstairs (Rachel is allergic to cats) and as she thundered down the stairs Lloyd smiled and said (not looking up from the computer), “That’s what I’ve missed.”

She was trying to eat his feet.

You’re welcome, Lloyd.
