I made pesto tonight. I’m always watching people do it on television, and it looks so fun. You need: olive oil, garlic, fresh basil, parmesan cheese, and pine nuts.
I toasted the pine nuts. I’d never tasted them before, and they’re kind of weird. Like a nut made of gin.

Throw everything into the blender. I could have used my food processor, but that would involve finding it, then cleaning it. The blender’s handier.
Buzz it up and you’re done! It has a powerful lot of flavor, I tell you whut. I’m not sure if I like it yet. Tomorrow I’m going to put it on some fish, and also pasta. We’ll see! How ’bout that for being adventurous!
This final photo of the finished product actually looks like Beth’s picture of her green pregnancy vomit! (I sure wish I knew how to insert a link here! Brad -- help me!)
EXACTLY!!
I’ve never made pesto. I had in once at a fancy restaurant in California (with spaghetti). It cost a LOT of money. It was okay, I guess, but there was too much of it. Maybe that justified the high price.
I can imagine why it cost so much -- those pine nuts are pricey! (Remember, though, that I’m cheap.) 🙂
You must go through olive oil like CRAZY! Olive oil lamps, olive oil sugar scrubs, olive oil pesto… Maybe it should have it’s own category… “Things I Do With Olive Oil”
When are you going to plant an olive tree in my backyard?
You’d probably break out! Olive trees are bad for people with allergies.
Can you make it with another nut? Things that taste like pine trees should either be a practical joke, or should give me a good buzz…
I’ve had pine nuts in one of my invented salads. In my opinion, pine nuts don’t taste like pine trees. They didn’t taste like much at all to me. Sort of buttery, sort of like a sunflower seed. But not much flavor at all.
I am overly sensitive to gin, if you’ll remember. The only way to neutralize it is with tonic and lots and lots of lime.
I agree with Michele … or … the pesto looks like another episode of fruit regurgitation. What’s really going on in your house?
Peggy -- we posted at the exact same moment!!! That’s got to be dangerous for the universe, don’t you think? (Sorry, my sci-fi geekiness rears it’s ugly mutant head.)
Whoa … you are so right … we could have ruptured the entire space-time continuum & destroyed all of life as we know it! (I did feel a jolt, but I thought it was from the thought of actually swallowing the pesto)
Ha!
