It’s not easy being married to a geek. Lloyd’s so quiet – always tappity-tapping on his computer keyboard, and when he does talk, I can’t understand anything he says. He’s interested in politics, which puts me right to sleep. Then there are all the computery-math-geeky things he does – reading books about equations and programming and chess. He reads BOOKS about CHESS. Good grief! I don’t understand any of the computer stuff at all. Did you know that a ‘server’ is not a waiter? And a wireless router is not a woodworking tool?

I like tv. shows and making a mess. We’ve come to a compromise. When he starts talking like a grown-up and my eyes glaze over, we draw this symbol in the air.

This is all the math I can handle.

Don’t you also like his ability to bully salespeople? It’s quite a handy talent. It came in useful to me when I got my old truck…

I have to brag on myself. It took me 2 weeks and 2 trips to the computer store, but I finally got our server up & running with some on-the-phone support from my live-out tech-guy. (I’m trying to get a record for the most hyphens in one sentence.) My tech-guy will be home for his first weekend visit today!!! Yippee! Now, if he had been here, he would have had everything fixed in about an hour, but…

Well done! I understood the words ‘store’ and ‘guy’. The rest was all jibberish to me.

CHESS! I am a fanatic about chess! Let’s play, Lloyd! Do you play online? I usually play at chess.com. There is a nice Lutheran community there, plus about a bazillion other people.

I’ve never played online. I’m always afraid that the guy I’m playing with is feeding moves into a computer or into Garry Kasparov.

You’re thinking of Gary Coleman. It’s a common mistake.

Arron loves, loves, LOVES to read history books. I’m cool with that, since he was a history major and all, but I still wonder why he has to read 200 different books about the Civil War. It’s history -- the ending is the same. The North wins. Every time. I promise.

It’s comforting to know the outcome. I was on the edge of my seat wondering if the Autobots or the Decepticons would win in the last Transformers movie. Talk about uncomfortable.

I would love to ask what an Autobot or Decepticon is, but alas, I know…..I don’t know if that makes me a geek or just a parent?

Lauren be careful with whom you call a geek. I seem to remember that is the one thing you two really have in common.

Lloyd, feel free to talk politics and computers with me and Chris whenever Lauren is zoning out and drawing circles in the air:)
FYI- I do not really know much about computers- so that is more Chris’ arena…
