Open Mike Night

November 21, 2006 by Lauren 13 Comments

Clap, people!

You believe in fairies, don’t you? Clap to keep Tinkerbell alive! Clap! Clap!

So on talk radio when the host is too lazy to actually host, they have Open Mike time. Since Lloyd and I will be gone for Thanksgiving, it’s up to you – the fans and the lurkers – to keep this website going. (The internet connection is iffy at my folks, so I don’t know if we’ll be able to update.) I’d like y’all to tell us what you’ll be doing for Thanksgiving, or offer a good recipe or cooking tip to keep this thing alive until Sunday.

Thanks for your support!

Prototype

November 20, 2006 by Lauren 10 Comments

Those of you unfamiliar with my work should know that I only make prototypes: meaning that I’ll have an idea and bring it to 87% completion (just to see it work), then give up.

I found an interesting idea online about a candle heater. (It’s at www.heatstick.com if you’d like to check it out.) I went ahead and ordered one because I thought , “Here’s a guy who had an idea and actually carried it through! That kind of dedication has to be encouraged.” However, it’s going to take several days for mine to arrive, so I made an extremely dangerous prototype.

His candle heater has three flower pots and many more screws and washers, and a well-made stand – not a green bean can with sharp, dangerous gashes on the sides. I played with it all night, using the infrared thermometer to check how hot it was getting. I also gave myself a royal burn after touching the bolt. I knew it was hot, and was being very, very careful, then some demon possessed my mind and said, “Touch it. Touch it now.” Then I did. Stupid.

jagged edges and hot surfaces - my kind of fun!

blurry, or moving very fast?

Don’t adjust your screen, the picture’s just blurry.

Foolish, foolish Brad

November 19, 2006 by Lauren 2 Comments

(This post will make no sense unless you go to Brad’s site.)

Brad, I can’t believe how passe’ your idea is. People – swanky people – have been drinking from drains for years!

Semi-Productive Day

November 18, 2006 by Lauren 3 Comments

For all the sitting around and watching tv we did today, we did actually manage to get some things done.   Lloyd finished up the map for Kate and John’s wedding, and I cut them out.  (I have the big knife, remember.)  I also made a card  for a family from the Center who is celebrating the adoption of their three boys.  The yellow text shows up better in person than in the picture.

not the first, second or tenth draft of either

like marzipan, I guess

I also planned on re-doing the caulking in the bathroom, but I bought the wrong color.  Oops.

Slow News Day

November 17, 2006 by Lauren 3 Comments

Well, the news isn’t slow, but the photo is what it is.   The Thanksgiving Breakfast Buffet was a big hit at school, Lloyd is at his Fun Night with the middle school children.  (He co-ordinates an evening of games & dancing.  I won’t go into it because he’ll probably want to write about it later.)  It’s 9:40 and he won’t be home for at least another hour.

I’ve been sitting around the house, occasionally cleaning up, and trying not to fall asleep out of supportive guilt for Lloyd.  Here’s a picture of my lap.  The shoes are my expensive, but foot-saving Josef Siebels, which I pray look better when I stand up than they do in this picture.  The uke is staged, but the harmonica isn’t.

(Who are we kidding?  It’s staged, too.)

No Photo

November 16, 2006 by Lauren 2 Comments

Brad and I have discussed how it’s a good idea to have some photos on backup – for those dry days. This is one of those. We’re going to bed at 9 so we can get up at 5 and be at work by 6. Lloyd has computer stuff to do and I have our Thanksgiving Breakfast Buffet. No chuckles this post. ‘Nite.
