Saturday

Whenever I’m at work, I think of all the things that I’ll get done at home when I have lots of time.  Yeah.  Today was spent mostly saying, “I gotta turn off this t.v.”  We actually did get some minor things accomplished.  Lloyd did some computer stuff (which I’ll never understand.  This magic box is run by elves, right?)  He and I worked on some shelving in the basement, and I did some laundry and worked on taking the border off in the dining room.  Oh, and I made refrigerator biscuit donuts because of everyone’s weird craving talks.  They did not turn out well – the oil was too hot, so they were doughy in the middle and too done on the outside.  Oh well!

Mmmmm...fried bread....

Oh, and here’s the update on the babies.  They’re sleeping through the night now and growing so fast!

getting taller!

Plant Prototype

March 23, 2007 by Lauren 5 Comments

I was watching a commercial for the AeroGarden, a hydroponic thing that sits on your countertop and costs $150 to have fresh lettuce and tomatoes. Well, not being a gardener but definitely being a tinkerer, I decided to make my own.

As with many things, I made it first, then checked out how to do it. Turns out that the AeroGarden isn’t just a hydroponic garden, but an aeroponic garden – meaning that the roots get sprayed with nutrient solution. Yeah, that ain’t happenin here. I’ve got plastic cups, cotton balls, and seeds.

Behold thy components!

(I also bought a grow-light for the fluorescent light that’s always on in the basement. Total cost: about ten bucks.)

There are holes in the bottom of the cups. I'm not stupid.

So here it is two days later, and I’ve got germination!

Aww…they’re so cute…

Baby lettuce - I'll devour you someday.

Who knew?

March 23, 2007 by Lauren 9 Comments

What could it be?

Guess what this little building in Lincoln is?  A library?  A school?  A house with a really big address plaque?  No, sillies, it’s the …

Wowsers!

Ha!  In little ol’ Lincoln Nebraska!  I drive by it when I drop off Lloyd at choir practice on Sundays.  Someday I’ll actually go inside – it’s on my list of ‘Things to do when I can’t possibly think of something else to do’.   I don’t think they’ll welcome me, though.  One look at my ankles and they’ll know I’m an imposter.  “You can’t skate!  Get out of here!”

Kristi’s no liar

March 21, 2007 by Lauren 6 Comments

If you checked Brad’s site on March 21, he talked about balancing an egg and how it can be done any day of the year. Our good friend Kristi did it!  Here’s proof:

Egg-cellent!

Dang it, Kristi!  After I posted your picture I had to try it myself.  THIS is why I’m not getting stuff done – I’m too easily distracted!!!

To be fair, I tried the most flat-bottomed egg I had.

Gala-rific

March 20, 2007 by Lauren 5 Comments

First of all, I must say – Happy Birthday, Keren!!!!!  Woo-hoo!!

Before the crush

Lloyd’s school had it’s Gala on Saturday, and we went to help (plus mooch a free, delicious meal).  We got to check in the spiffily-dressed folks.  They have a dinner, silent auction, then live auction.  I’m sure they made a lot of money, but I was outbid on the one thing I thought was cool – a bag full of books.  C’est la vie.

Goodies galore

Can I get a hundredhundredhundredhundred, now a hundredfittyhundredfittyhundredfitty...

I’d write more but I’m beat.  Somehow I keep running out of time.  My battle cry is, “Survive March!”

From Annette to Brad

March 19, 2007 by Lauren 5 Comments

Note the extreme wear and tear

I feel like I’m passing notes.

Dear Brad, Annette wanted me to show you what happened to her handles.  The lower ones are where she keeps the delicious snacks and cereal, the upper ones are where she keeps the vegetables and fiber-rich foods.
