Validation

August 22, 2012 by Lauren 5 Comments

Remember that outdoor chair that I bought for my classroom because a little girl had barfed all over my previous comfy chair? I don’t know if I ever shared how genius the new chair is, because it has fabric that is completely waterproof and washable. I had a little boy draw on it with pen and it came right off.

Today, Tyler tested it’s barfibility, and it passed with flying colors.

Barf, barf, barf.
Lysol, Lysol, Lysol.
Good as gold.

Wrapped in Love

August 19, 2012 by Lauren 8 Comments

These kittens are going to be so much nicer than their mother. I am so thankful for friends with children who come over to properly socialize the kittens. Lloyd and I aren’t home enough to really give them the attention they need, so Macy, Bethany, Tara and Tim have been stellar.

Kittens need regular hauling about, giggling and fussing over, and wrapping up in blankets. When I was a kid I would make little beds for my cat and tuck her in like a baby.

It took some wrangling to get them into positions.

Thank you, Tara. They need this!

Can you see all five?

Do not try this at school.

August 18, 2012 by Lauren 3 Comments

I have really been trying to get my money’s worth out of my iPad at school. (Before I inevitably drop it, that is.)
* I take pictures of the children working then we do a little reviewing at the end of the morning.
* When Ethan brought in some cicada shells I pulled up a video of one molting, which was wonderfully gross.
* E-mailing a photo to a child’s parents is crazy easy.
* And outside – I balanced it on the fence so the kids could dance to some music.

I added the nail for extra security.

I admit that this is very, very, very, very, very stupid. One fall and that thing is a goner. However, I felt that it was pretty stable without the yarn, and then I added yarn, for crying out loud. It couldn’t be more less likely to fall than if I had glued it down. Right?

Right?

Lloyd said that it looks like it’s one playground ball away from an insurance claim. Silly boy, the balls have to stay in the ball area. You can’t kick a ball out of the ball area or else you’ll get excused. (And have to give Mrs. Sommerer 600 bucks for a new iPad.)

Oh, well – it made the dancers happy, and it didn’t fall.

Faces blurred for their protection.

This time.

Heavy Bag

My truck stopped working on Monday, but I just now got around to talking to someone about fixing it. Lloyd gave it a look, but seeing that it had no hard drive, he gave up.

I don’t mind walking, but there is so much junk in my bag it is ridiculous. Tonight I dumped it all out on the table and assessed it.

I have determined that it is all vitally necessary, including the many lists, lone zip tie and Baggie of emergency cat food for strays. (Otherwise known as PB bait).

How’s your mattress?

August 15, 2012 by Lauren 7 Comments

So, I have been waking up in the mornings so, so achy. No, I’m not doing yoga – that ended a long time ago. I do try to stretch a little right away, but that’s mostly to make my knees stop hurting.

So, since I have a bad memory and can’t seem to remember a time when I wasn’t achy when I woke up (but might have just been a week ago), my question is: Are you refreshed and rested when you first wake up, or are you also kind of creaky? If you answered ‘yes’ and then ‘no’, what kind of mattress do you have, and may I borrow it?

It’s in the eyes.

August 14, 2012 by Lauren 5 Comments

Here are some photos I took a couple of days ago trying to capture the eye colors of the kittens. Apparently this is when their eyes change color. The orange boys still have fairly blue eyes, but Fivel and one of the girls (I can’t remember who and I’m too lazy to walk over there and check) are veering toward gray. It’s very apparent in the sunshine.

Ok, it must be Christopher Robin who has gray eyes. This is Mika.

Hey, b-baby.

Though the blue eyes have that bit of yellow-gold in the middle. Is that normal?

He looks very majestic, doesn't he? I don't know who this is.

I’ve always thought I had brown eyes, but up close they are green around the edges. Does that mean hazel?

And then there are crazy eyes, such as the eyes of Princess Batman and her doppelganger from the past – Brad and Beth’s childhood cat, Lucy. Apparently Lucy was more psycho than PB, though I’d be hard pressed to imagine how that is possible.

Look at those crazy eyes.
