A little distraction

September 11, 2012 by Lauren 8 Comments

So, that panic that I mentioned yesterday? My days that are filled with one if not two extra things going on that I’m not prepared for? Well, if something fun comes along, I am chuckin’ it all and going with it instead!

Today before naptime the kids were watching the Veggie Tales Bible Western ‘The Ballad of Little Joe’. I had already told them that this was not the real story -the veggies were just acting it out. As I listened to the video while setting out the cots, I thought how it would be pretty fun if I could video us telling the story, and wondering if there was a way to use simple costumes or something, and – of course – a fast way to get it done.

Oh.

But there is.

I have an iPad.

I have Puppet Pals on my iPad.

So then I was just a mental wreck and could barely focus on anything else until This. Was. Done.

And in the spirit of Prototype Girl, as soon as they were up I had them all pitching in to do a fast, fast, fast version of the Joseph story. A patient teacher would have held off until Friday when we would be more familiar with the story and require less prompting, but we all know I’m not patient.

Here we go!

Too hot to handle…

September 10, 2012 by Lauren 5 Comments

…right now.

First of all, Happy birthday to my Dad! Have a great one, and one of my students, Jack – who is turning 5, says that he’s glad you’re his birthday buddy.

Life’s been pretty busy around here. There is so much going on in
September that I’m starting to have panic attacks worrying about how it will all get done. Right now I have a pretty good plan and it looks
manageable if I just take it day by day, but little things that go wrong (five little things mostly) tend to throw me.

Besides the kittens, another little thing is that last week our
air conditioner died. The timing was good, as evenings have been
plenty cool and just opening the house at night makes it tolerable, but I am praying we don’t get another big stretch of heat because there is no way
I can have a repair person come over to my house right now and work with Princess Batman’s ‘leavings’ right there. Plus, surely he would be attacked by kittens.

Somebody remind me to fix the air conditioner next spring.

Phone Book of Design

September 6, 2012 by Lauren 7 Comments

I pulled in the driveway today to see a large package sticking out of the mailbox. I laughed out loud when I saw it was a catalog from Restoration Hardware. It was three items bagged all together like a phone book. The hilarious part – it was HUGE!

Like a ton of bricks.

Seriously, the main big book is 690 pages! The smaller catalog is 154. Holy hardware, Batman!

The enormous catalog came with the disclaimer that since the company is going green, they will only bother me with this giant catalog twice a year – not several smaller catalogs monthly – and I can certainly call them to ask to not receive it anymore.

Remind me that I need to do that.

I used to love Restoration Hardware because they were quirky. Their catalogs had neat old things – not just interior design stuff – but old gadgets and such that my feeble brain can’t remember. There was a store in Kansas City that we used to visit and all the little gadget-y things had hilarious explanation cards by the price.

You used to be funny, Restoration Hardware, but now you have become a self-important empire that only markets expensive furniture and textiles in grey, muted, sad tones – taking yourself entirely too seriously under Gary Friedman’s direction. Goodbye, R.H.

Gary's a silver fox.

We can no longer be friends.

Wait….. um, I do like that.

That shelf in the background.

Er. And that.

It gives me ideas for school.

Dang it. Scratch the reminder.

We never even dated…..

September 5, 2012 by Lauren 9 Comments

I spent too much time working on a project for church, so now I’m out of time for a real post. Let’s take a poll.

Of course, at my job, I cannot swear. (Out loud.) I can, however, mutter (clean) stuff under my breath and lately my phrase of choice has been, “Oh, for the love of Pete.”

Each and every time it surprises me. Why am I saying that? I have never before said it in my life, and now I seem to be saying it daily – mostly when I’m setting out the cots and right after I get someone’s ready I realize they are gone for the day oh, for the love of Pete.

I even said it when I was painting the Cat Disaster Area, when I could have been Free and Clear to call out the Big Ones.

So, what are your acceptable-in-public blurts? Keep in mind we have some kids here, folks.

Waahhh

August 31, 2012 by Lauren 6 Comments

*sniff*. I am giving in to the allergies that have plagued me the past few weeks. The allergies that two daily doses of 24-hour medicine can barely control. So on a Friday night I was jammied by 7 and dozed on the sofa watching tv. I awoke to Star Wars and Lloyd and I once again bemoaned the fact that we didn’t name PB Admiral Ackbar.

Happy weekend, y’all.

You can pick your friends, and you can pick your nose…

August 30, 2012 by Lauren 10 Comments

and you can pick your friend’s brains. That is all you can pick.

I am curious about your thoughts regarding Mister Rogers. Mind you, I am a huge fan, so if you say anything negative about him, I will no longer pick you as a friend, and things will go badly for you. So be warned.

Seriously, did you watch him? Did you like him? If you did like him and/or the show, how so? I need some feedback for some school stuff I’m thinking of doing.

Here is a little remixed, auto-tuned video that I love if you need a little bit of prompting:

So, thanks in advance, neighbor.
