New favorite iPhone App

December 12, 2010 by Lauren 19 Comments

I like the whole Oh Come Oh Come Immanuel done with just a few hand bells and otherwise acappella. And I was going to try that on next Friday for chapel, but we don’t have any hand bells at school. Rather than try to borrow some, I thought that I would see that was available on the old iPhone.

There’s a neat app called Holiday Bells. It has a great set of jingle bells that play when you shake the phone, but that didn’t help me any. It also has hand bells. But although they sound great, they didn’t go quite low enough for what I had in mind.

However, it turns out that out that Lauren absolutely loved the app, and, after about 37 seconds, was doing things with it that I didn’t know could be done. Here’s one of her early arrangements.

She’s taking some cold medicine then makes her hands tremble. She’s really not as nervous as she looks.

iPhone Eve (part 2)

June 23, 2010 by Lloyd 13 Comments

Twas the night before iPhone,
we’d seen it before,
the dorks and the geeks
click-click-clicking once more.

The nerds, not lined up,
As before was their custom,
This time more relaxed
For pre-ordered they must-of.

Version 4 of the iPhone
Would arrive right on cue
For all good girls and boys
Just like me and like you.

Lauren snug in her jammies,
But Brad’s plane delayed,
Lloyd saying goodbye —
His old iPhone dismayed.

When what to his clickity
Mouse should show up?
This time Fake Steve Jobs
Who knew it? What luck!

“More gigabytes! More battery!
Gyroscopes and compasses!
HD video recording!
Better cameras with flashes!

The display? Twice as good
Yes, we think it’s a winner
Now with glass front and back.
Twenty-four percent thinner!”

He smiles as he spoke:
“See? it wasn’t a fad.”
As he pulled from his pack,
a tiny, down-sized iPad.

He tossed it to Lloyd
The turned round to go,
His work here now done,
yet much further to go.

But I heard him exclaim
As he rode out of site,
“It’s still AT&T.”
“I can’t do everything right.”

iLloyd’s first iPhone app.

December 8, 2008 by Lloyd 13 Comments

Ha! Lauren’s not the only one around here who can make crap prototype. We have 6 different schedules that get used fairly frequently (3 for middle school and 3 for high school). And a few others that we like to throw in every-so-often just to mess with the kids. It takes me at least until Christmas to have a clue about when classes start and end.

Sure, I could have solved this problem with a trip to the photocopier and a few thumb-tacks, but Steve Jobs wouldn’t approve of that. I give you iLloyd’s first iPhone app…

Amazing! Words and everything.Wow! It even has a menu.

It picks the schedule based on the day and you can set it to default to either the Middle School or High School schedule. It will work in browsers and lesser phones, so I guess parents and other teachers might also find it useful. It also makes toast. Take that Sambo.

Geek Info: Uses iUI library for the iPhone bits and some Python to set the correct schedule and cookies (yummy, yummy cookies).
