Whoops! I forgot to make a post last night. I’ll take the easy way out and just re-post someone else’s hard work.
This kitten is hilarious!

Whew. Sunday was a doozy. I got up bright and early so I could be at church in plenty of time to watch communion setup. I even helped a little bit and took copious amounts of notes. Afterward there are things to be done to put things away, but I don’t have to wash things up! That’s a totally different job!
Afterward I went home to change clothes and get the refreshments for the people that were going to help move pews after late service. Lloyd says that it’s nice to have drinks for people who are giving of their time. I had a small problem, though, since the low tubs that I’ve used to serve pops from were AWOL. I didn’t want to run home and get our coolers because they also need to be washed out, so I improvised in the home ec. kitchen. I figured it would cool them down, and the sinks have handy drains!
It all worked out fine. I was ON FIRE with adrenaline and worry, since I was certain that with it being Labor Day weekend, no one was going to show up for this event. We had a bunch of dedicated workers, though, for which I am eternally grateful. You can take a peek here.
Sam even showed up to help! However, he forgot his belt, so to avoid any trouble, Beth rounded up a substitute:
After most of the people left, a few of us cleaned everything up and I came home to sleep a looooooonnnnnng time. To those of you who sent me texts, I had my phone on vibrate and just now see the message but it’s too late to call you back. Sorry ’bout that.

I had high hopes for Saturday. I have a list of things to get done this long weekend, and some things were done today, some weren’t. I’m sure you’re on the edge of your seat wondering.
What did get done:
Big breakfast (highest priority)
Two solids naps (You have to pencil those in first.)
Package mailed to Brad (better late than never)
An hour of cleaning in the basement (not as much accomplished as hoped)
Two loads of laundry
Guest room partially cleaned
Tomato tart made and eaten
Kitchen cleaned twice (grumble grumble)
Television watched – ahhhhhhh……
Internet surfed……. ahhhh…..
What did not get done:
Visit to the doctor (my knee and wrist have been acting up and Wednesday’s appointment was cancelled by the doctor. I was too lazy to go for a walk-in this morning. Eh – I’ll be fine.)
Groceries purchased
First viewing of how communion gets set up. (Lloyd and I are on the altar guild/communion set-up list and I wanted to see the Saturday night and Sunday morning routine. I was too late for the Saturday one. D’oh! There’s always tomorrow.)

If I remember correctly, Peggy’s son is getting married today (Saturday). How wonderful!!
I pray that it is a wonderful day filled with many smiles, a few good tears, a reasonable amount of stress, and at least one good story.
Blessings, Peggy!

I have a few kids in my class who have their fingers in their mouths all. the. time. My standard approach is to ask them to please go wash their hands, then bang my head on a wall. Sometimes we even break out a pair of winter gloves after the twentieth time. It serves as a good reminder.
Side memory: I used to have a boy, Michael, who always had his finger jammed up his nose. He wasn’t even picking it, just plugging it. I would out band-aids with hearts to remind him that ‘loving finger stay out of noses’ or some such nonsense, and not two minutes later he had his bandaged finger in his nostril. “Michael, why are you doing that?” I asked in exasperation. He shrugged and said, “I just like it.”
Well, it’s hard to argue with that.
Anyway, the mom of one of my current thumb-suckers started using Thum, a nail-polish-type stuff that tastes bad, and darned if her son had non-saliva-coated hands the next day! She hasn’t been keeping up with it, though, so I bought my own bottle and am going to ask if I can give him a manicure when the need arises.

Clothes shopping is the absolute pits. I hate. hate. hate it.
Let me tell you a little story. First, I have to preface it with the facts that 1) I dress in teacher clothes during the school year and 2) in the summer, my personal dress code is a little more relaxed. No shorts, but capris and t-shirts. Remember, though, that all my shirts come from Target and pants from Kohls due to their practicality and price.
Anyway, at work I notice when the young moms come in wearing their beautiful blouses, dresses, skirts and other clothes that won’t have play-dough stuck on the butt by the end of the day. I like to complement them on their lovely attire. This summer one of the moms looked so pretty – like a little girl but ‘all grown up’. Pink dress, little black cardigan and high-heeled mary jane shoes. Just lovely. I exclaimed how cute her outfit was and she said, “Well, I’d love to have a job where I could dress like you ladies.”
Ouch.
Ouch.
Ouch.
Soooooooo…… while I can’t do the dress and heels, I’ve decided that maybe it might be time to make more of an effort. The total downside of that is that to obtain nicer clothes you have to shop for them.
Today I made a concerted effort. I have to shop alone because I need to be able to wander about at my own pace and argue with myself without distraction. I was in Kohls for over an hour and actually tried things on, but only bought one measly shirt. Their pants – which I have counted on in past years – did not fit. (Granted, I haven’t bought new pants in three years.) Back to Target, where I only bought one standby t-shirt (but with stripes!) and three other non-t shirts. At ShopKo I tried on some pants that are neeeeeaaarrrrrly like jeans, but I think they’ll work. Do dress pants made of denim count as jeans? I’m going to try it. (Friday is jeans day, but if I can wear these on Wednesday…….woo-hoo!)
