Basement Garden

November 24, 2009 by Lloyd 6 Comments

As part of our ever evolving plan to survive the zombie apocalypse, we have been experimenting with growing food in the basement. You may recall that the last growing food in the basement experiment didn’t exactly take off. So for this experiment, we simply decided to sit around and wait for something to start growing on its own. Which, if you have plenty of time, (we do not expect an actual zombie apocalypse until next August) seems like the best way to get things to grow.

Where is it getting water?

We are currently waiting for some herbs and a dairy cow to grow in the basement, then we will dine on French Onion Soup.

Fool me twice…

January 19, 2009 by Lauren 13 Comments

Lloyd’s a stinker.  He outright lied to me again* and said that he didn’t have school but the teachers had a ‘workday’.  After dropping me off this morning – he came right back and cleaned the basement!!!  There are no ‘before’ photos, but trust me – it was awful.  Piles of junk, papers, boxes and assorted nonsense all over.  It’s so clean now, I am inspired to get the rest of the house in tip-top condition!

Clean, yet blurry.

Garrrrrrrr.  As happy as it makes me, it pains me that he is so good at this.  How does he have the ability to stay in one spot and keep working on it without the urge to cook/melt/sew something or to try to make a solar heater for cats?  Such laser-like focus.  Right now, I have four chores in the works: folding laundry (half done), sorting through papers upstairs, trying to remember to take that vacuum  upstairs, and…… eh, I’ll remember the other one later.

*He did this in March of 2007, and once before, but I can’t find the proof.

Betterday

October 20, 2007 by Lauren 7 Comments

After Friday being so messed up, Saturday turned out much better.  In the morning I made breakfast from the previous night’s ham and potatoes, figured some cool stuff out on the computer and made the second shelf/cubby thing for school.  Here you can see how I work best when building.  There’s no ‘workbench’, just the floor of our messy, messy basement.  Also, I’m in my jammies.  There’s no finer way to dress on a Saturday morning!

cold floor, warm heart

We went to Omaha in the afternoon to spend Lloyd’s gift certificate to the Apple store.  It was tough to decide what to spend it on, but in the end we got a wireless keyboard.  The gift certificate was the reimbursement from the iPhone – he paid the big price, remember.  So do we call this the iKeyboard now?
