Adventure!

February 19, 2008 by Lauren 9 Comments

Oh, it’s been an unexpectedly exciting last half of the day. I needed to run into Lincoln to do a little shopping (future post) before a presentation at the Lied Center at 7:00. I zipped home before I left and some stuff I ordered arrived from FedEx (future post), which was delightful.

Item purchased, got to the Lied on time, sat down with co-workers to watch Richard Louv speak on getting kids outside, for cryin’ out loud. It was an awesome presentation, and if you’d like a snippet of it, read this. (Zip down to the paragraph that starts ‘Even without corroberating evidence…’ I love how it ends.) Anyway, afterwards there was a Q & A that we didn’t stay for. I wanted to run to Sam’s to get some groceries.

Sam’s was closed by the time I got there so I ran into the HyVee next door. As I paid for my groceries, I realized that my camera wasn’t in my purse. The last time I had it was when I took a picture of all those people in the Lied, and ……. NOOOOOOO!!!!!! My camera was in the theater!!!!!!!!!

I was far away, so I called Lloyd, who thankfully was still in Lincoln due to Bad Movie Night, and asked him to go over there and tell them I was coming. He did, God bless him, but they told him that they couldn’t let him in, and that we should call in the morning to see if the cleaning crew found it. NOOOOO!!!!! I drove like mad to get there, burst inside and tried all the Girl Charm I could muster. I begged the man at the door to let me in. He was hesitant, but could see that I was desperate. His supervisor let me in, and was a little surprised that I wasn’t too proud to crawl around on the ground looking for it. (We didn’t have assigned seats.) It was there! It was there!! I kept saying, “Thank you, God! Thank you, God! Thank you, God!” Then I looked at his shocked face and said, “Thank you, too… (looking at his name tag) David!” He laughed and said, “I’m glad when things turn out like this. You just made my night.” I would have kissed him, but that would have been inappropriate.

So here – enjoy this photo!

Look at all these people who know kids need to get outside!

Tripod Magic

February 16, 2008 by Lauren 10 Comments

I bought a tripod!  No more gut-wrenching movies, at least not due to the camera work!

It’s not the most expensive one they sell at Best Buy, but it’s not the cheapest, either.  I really meant to make a movie involving getting it out of the box and setting it up, but I didn’t. (Maybe later.)  Instead, you can guess which one I bought.  Sorry for this unexciting post on a dreary Saturday.  I’m off to make pancakes.

Which one could it be?

I don’t have a lot of time today, so here are some black and white photos.  (I did have a lot of time when I was taking them.)

Well, whaddaya know?

January 15, 2007 by Lauren 8 Comments

Lloyd and I took the camera into Circuit City (where service is state of the art) tonight to return it.  I was full of righteous indignation, and was prepared to give them the what-for about this stupid camera that died within a month.  (Who are we kidding?  I brought Lloyd along because I’m a total coward.  He’s the heavy.)  We explained our situation, stood there stonily, then were completely thrown off track by the guy turning the camera on – and it worked just fine. Confound it all!!!  Now we were faced with the decision to return this one, or get the extended warranty on this one in case it should die again.  After much hemming and hawing, we bought the warranty.

So here are some of the photos from yesterday’s long day at school!  Here’s Lloyd putting cables into some roofing vent stuff to keep the room looking  non-cabley.

Computer teacher.... or SPIDERMAN?!?!

Here’s me in right-side-up, non-back-hurting mode.

Hole drilling is key

And while this in not our handiwork, this is a picture my Dad sent of his computer.  It must be where I get my skills.  I especially like the sledgehammer.  Go, Dad!

Technology gets it's come-uppance, compliments of Reverand Hofman!

(It died a while ago.  He needed to mess with it so it would stay on long enough to get some data off of it.)

Worst day ever.

January 14, 2007 by Lloyd 8 Comments

Things actually went fairly well as far as putting computer stuff together, but apart from that it was the worst day ever (again). First Lauren hurt her back. She was lying under a table screwing around screw into the table to hold up a piece of vinyl siding to hold all the computer cables, when all of a sudden her back locked up. We thought I was going to have to pull her out from under the table by her feet, but she eventually crawled out. It didn’t really get better, but it was bearable.

Then that cute little camera that she got for Christmas just stopped working. It was in the middle of one of Lauren’s frequent photo sessions. Instead of the lens popping out it beeped and said “e18”. There was some misunderstanding here as well as to the nature of the problem that made Lauren think I wasn’t listening to her, when I really just didn’t understand her. I thought I was doing what she wanted, but I wasn’t. This is not the first time that this has happened.

Those are sharp stabbing pains shooting out from Lauren's back. Not majesty.

Lauren looked around on the Internet, and “e18” is fairly common. I’m off school tomorrow, which means that I’ll go in anyway and do some of the computer stuff that I can’t do when there are students and teachers all over the place, and I’ll try to return it to Circuit City. Lauren isn’t happy.

Then, to add insult to injury, while Lauren was soaking the the tub, trying to find some relief for her aching back, she asked me if I would write a post about her worst day ever. I said I would, but ,when she got down here, I was reading a book instead. Needless to say, I got that look that said, “I hurt my back slaving away helping you all day –on the weekend, I might add– and, when I ask you to do one little thing for me, you just blow it off and read your stupid book.” I’d seen that look before, so I knew that I was in trouble. So, I’m going to have to cut this post short, as I’ve got some serious sucking up to do.

At least we weren’t trapped in Lincoln.
