A Delicious Treat

March 7, 2013 by Lloyd 4 Comments

Lauren said I had to write a post or she would start all of her posts with “X Days since Lloyd has posted.” Nobody wants that kind of trouble.

This afternoon when I walked into the classroom (Actually, it wasn’t one of my normal classes; who decides that it’s a good idea to have twenty-five 8th grade boys in one room at the same time?) A student asked me if I wanted to try some candy. Said student if from Korea, and everyone knows that they have the best candy in Korea, so I immediately said, “You bet I do!”

Not to scale

I was not sorry that I did. It was the most perfect peach tasting candy that I have ever tasted in my life. It was as if someone captured the very essence of what it mean to be a peach and then sucked out all the parts that are good for you.

I had to think for a long time before I figured out what the texture was. My mouth knew that it was like something that had been in it before, but I couldn’t put my finger on it –mostly because my mom taught me that that was rude once you’d put it in your mouth. Finally it hit me. It was a Starburst. Exactly a Starburst and exactly a peach.

I ate them all. It did not take long.  Can not read

See how they run..

I noticed this when I went into Lincoln Lutheran last week. At first I thought, “What a strange thing for a student to do.” Then I jumped up on a chair. This was not a good idea, because the chair in question was on wheels.

I do question his/her choice here.

I got rid of the food, and presumably the mouse moved on as well.

Best Buy

August 10, 2010 by Lloyd 5 Comments

Over the weekend, Lauren and I went to be confused by Inception. It was a pretty good movie, and the first movie in a while where I liked the ending. But the movie wasn’t the best part.

I’ve been having a hankering for cotton candy for a while now. It started when my parents came up to visit. We took them to Valentino’s Grand Italian Buffet (that’s a 360 degree panorama, go ahead, take a look). In the past, I’ve considered the buffet most notable for it’s ICEE machine. I can actually consume the price of the buffet in ICEE*, so the buffet is always a bargain. This time, however I noticed that they also have fresh spun Cotton Candy at the buffet (I know, it’s like they read my mind). However, because (a) Lauren discouraged it for some reason and (b) I did not actually notice the Cotton Candy until we’d already been there for quite some time and I was more than full, I did not take any.

Anyway, since then I’ve been thinking a lot about Cotton Candy and guess what? They have cotton candy at the movie theatre (this is how they spell it so that you can’t actually remember the website address so you can’t actually see what movies are playing). There are many reasons to love cotton candy, but the best one is that, with the proper humidity, it is possible to make it last forever.

Not yet flffy goodness.

No matter how often you pull cotton candy in half, you always have the same amount left. My favorite amount to eat at any given moment is that wispy little bit that is roughly the size of a silver dollar, weighs as much as a butterfly and, if smashed, takes up as much room as 2 grains of rice.

Sadly, you really can’t keep doing that forever because you inevitably squish some while you pull it apart, and humidity always spoils your fun in the end. If it were not for the humidity, I would insulate our house with Cotton Candy.

Flffy goodness

*Surprisingly enough, this is not a footnote. However, since you’re down here anyway, let me explain. ICEE is actually the singular form, but there is, effectively, no plural form that simply means “more than one” as with most plurals. Instead, two ICEE is denoted as ICEEE, three as ICEEEE and so forth. The asterisk is used to indicate an unknown number of ICEE*.

Halloween- Check!

October 31, 2008 by Lauren 12 Comments

Happy Day after Halloween!   We had a very pleasant evening here.  Annette, Kate and John came over (thanks, guys), and the weather was nice enough that it wasn’t freezing cold in the house until the end of our shift.

I usually keep track of the trick-or-treaters with a tally sheet, but this year I figured I could just count up how many Fun-Dips I had left.  Turns out that buying three boxes was too many.  However, Murphy’s Law says that if I only have two boxes next year I’ll run out.

I had 88 kids total.

Saw a lot of zombies this year.  Lot of zombies. Hope Lloyd makes it home from Fun Night safely, because I’m off to bed!

Cute Plane

February 18, 2007 by Lauren 2 Comments

I finally got around to going through my valentines from the children, and this one struck me as pretty darn clever.  It’s a roll of Smarties, with a stick of gum on the back held on by a rubber band threaded through two big Lifesavers.   I’m normally not a crafty person, but this was great!  (AnI think I bent the gum leaving it in the bag too long.)

I forgot to say, “Thanks, Jarod!  And Jarod’s mom!”

Fly me to the moon, and let me sail among the stars.
