Whoops! I forgot to make a post last night. I’ll take the easy way out and just re-post someone else’s hard work.
This kitten is hilarious!

There is some commercial on t.v. for some tooth whitener that has the line, “If you’re not whitening your teeth, you’re yellowing them.”
Dang it. Dang that super-effective commercial for whispering in my ear with every cup of coffee I pour. “Enjoy your caffeine jolt! Yellower teeth at no extra charge!” Dang it.
Sometime last week I came across the tip to use hydrogen peroxide to whiten teeth, since the main ingredient in whitening strips is just stronger peroxide. (They also said to brush with baking soda, but a Google search said that doing that too much can wear away your enamel, and I’m on thin ice already with that.)
Hmmmmmm. I’m all for cheap fixes. I just so happen to have an 88-cent bottle of hydrogen peroxide in my possession. For the past week I’ve been swishing some for a minute each day, and I’d like to think that my teeth have since held steady at their yellow level, despite the 28 cups of coffee I’ve had since starting.

Or maybe I’ll call you.
I came at this idea from a couple of different angles. The first was that my parents only have a landline phone, so sometimes when I call, they mention something about it being ‘on my dime’. Maybe I am part of the last generation to remember when long-distance calls cost more than local calls. (Remember MCI?)
The second is that you can make phone calls from your gmail account when you’re on a computer. (It won’t work with an iPad.) The problem is that if you just use your computer, it is a very echo-y call. Using headphones helps.
The third: My headphones are ruined.
The fourth: Y’know those handsets they sell that you can plug into your cell phone???
…… And the heavens aligned….
Look at that handy hang-up spot! I certainly can’t leave it there or Wally will eat it, but the handset is so comfortable! And the call is free! The only downside is that if you have caller ID, this looks like a call from California. So, if you get a call from there, it’s probably not me, because I never call anyone.

A couple of weeks ago Lloyd brought home a solar oven that his school was getting
rid of, and I think he was a little hurt that I didn’t immediately test it out. (It’s not that I didn’t want to, Lloyd.)
Well, last week my kids were studying birds and one of the boys brought in some eggs from his chickens. Friday was incredibly hot, so after we cracked them to see inside, we tried cooking them outside in a dark pan with a glass lid. It worked! (We did not eat them.)
Well, guess what we’re messing around with now, Lloyd? Woo-hoo! Using the 3-2-1 cake mix, we made one disastrous test cake using just a bowl (it spilled and couldn’t get hot enough),
Next we tried one using the pot the the leprechaun left behind, and it looks like that’s the way to go! Before:

Soooo…. It turns out that if you sleep all late afternoon and into the evening, it is difficult to fall asleep at night. But if you don’t have to go to work the next day, you can act like a cat and only wake up to eat.
I am so lazy.
Ok, I did do two things worth noting: I finally finished a job that I thought about last year. I collected empty frames and planned to fill the interior with cloth-covered homosote (bulletin-board-like stuff that’s not cork). A couple of months ago I cut some homosote for just two frames, and today I finally covered them. Only six more to go. Ha ha ha ha ha!!
The plan is to hang these up at school for little areas of ‘always nicely framed’ art. Well see how it goes.
The second was to make another tomato tart – fancily called ‘gallette’. It’s just a pie with tomatoes and stuff. The recipe is here, except i just made basic pie crust. (still trying to figure that out.) Saturday’s was pretty basic – just cooked onions, tomato and basil – but for today’s I added fresh corn and it was pretty good.
Then I took another nap.

Whew. Sunday was a doozy. I got up bright and early so I could be at church in plenty of time to watch communion setup. I even helped a little bit and took copious amounts of notes. Afterward there are things to be done to put things away, but I don’t have to wash things up! That’s a totally different job!
Afterward I went home to change clothes and get the refreshments for the people that were going to help move pews after late service. Lloyd says that it’s nice to have drinks for people who are giving of their time. I had a small problem, though, since the low tubs that I’ve used to serve pops from were AWOL. I didn’t want to run home and get our coolers because they also need to be washed out, so I improvised in the home ec. kitchen. I figured it would cool them down, and the sinks have handy drains!
It all worked out fine. I was ON FIRE with adrenaline and worry, since I was certain that with it being Labor Day weekend, no one was going to show up for this event. We had a bunch of dedicated workers, though, for which I am eternally grateful. You can take a peek here.
Sam even showed up to help! However, he forgot his belt, so to avoid any trouble, Beth rounded up a substitute:
After most of the people left, a few of us cleaned everything up and I came home to sleep a looooooonnnnnng time. To those of you who sent me texts, I had my phone on vibrate and just now see the message but it’s too late to call you back. Sorry ’bout that.
