A post in 4 parts (part 6)

September 25, 2009 by Lloyd 14 Comments

I bet you’ve all been wondering how the final voting turned out. Well, the wait is over:

I did not pick the colors.

I made a mistake. I should have included one other questions. Something like:

That way we could have known how many people voted. The way it is now, all we know is that at least 12 people voted. But the chances that everyone who voted said “iLloyd Charging Station are… what… um… 50/50?

Oh, there were also two write in votes:

  • The Daily Bugle
  • My other office has a window

A Post in 4 Parts (part 4)

September 4, 2009 by Lloyd 19 Comments

I have the closet cleaned out now, and I have a computer setup in it. Okay, two computers. Okay, at least two computers. Moving me into a closet ended up costing Lincoln Lutheran 2 new computers, a couple of decent monitors, a really pricey keyboard and mouse, and a fairly expensive KVM switch. But I made my own Ethernet cables to help keep the total cost down.

There's no place like home...

It’s not so bad as long as I keep the door open. And an unforeseen benefit to living in a closet is that there is no phone. I get a little more work done because it is harder for people to get ahold of me.

Those are design ideas for the next itteration of the school website.

Which leads me to the point of the thing. A few years ago I put one of those sign plaque thingies on the door and got a few signs to swap out. No one ever knew what was in this closet, so I had a few funny signs made that I would swap out seasonally. Over the years I’ve lost a few of them, and, more to the point, I’ve run out of ideas for new signs.

Ho Ho Ho

Seriously, three years running.

So I’m fishing for ideas. Obviously, the geekier the better, but I’m not proud. I’ll steal any idea. A former student stopped by few days ago, thought it was funny that they stuffed me in a closet and offered a few of his own:

  • The Bat Cave
  • Number 12, Grimmauld Place
  • The Holodeck

So, there you have it. Help make my closet more homey (funny signs are like geek curtains).

So long old friends

June 27, 2009 by Lloyd 13 Comments

I cleaned out my closet(s) yesterday. I think I sent about two dozen shirts and several pairs of pants off to Goodwill. Lauren did all of the folding and packaging, as I was in no condition to do any of that after the agonizing decisions I had to make. Several of the shirts were old enough to go to college. In fact, several of them attended Concordia on my back.

This one was the saddest. Todd Peperkorn took this picture of me, my shirt and Lauren while we were tooling around Germany. I’m just glad to have the picture to remember it by.

This is back when we loved each other.

We packaged them up along with some of Lauren’s clothing (so they wouldn’t be lonely) and delivered them to Goodwill after Brighton Kollipara’s 7th birthday party.

I'm gonna miss you guys.

Mystery Unsolved

June 25, 2009 by Lauren 19 Comments

Remember back in November when we had the mystery liquid on the basement floor, and it turned out to be Rain-x in the closet upstairs that was dripping on the floor? Well, a couple of weeks ago I noticed that the closet floor was wet again, but didn’t know why. My best guess was that the Rain-X had seeped into the walls and floors and was just being squeezed out by ghosts or something.

Well, today there was another puddle on the basement floor! What the what?? I went up to check the closet, and there was a giant wet mess in there.

Good freakin' grief.

Turns out that it is a bag of ice melt crystals that has mutated somehow. I don’t know what the deal is, but this is no good.

They leaked out the bag, and the inside of the container is wet. They're the same stuff.

I have contained the crystals so they can cause no further damage, but if anyone can explain this mystery to me – I’m all ears.

So is Cricket.

Cricket is not amused.
