Honeymoon

May 29, 2013 by Lloyd 5 Comments

Well, I’m finally leaving on my honeymoon. It’s a shame that Lauren can’t come along. Samith, Curt and I are going out to see Brad in Hawaii. Well, maybe technically Brad is coming to see me in Hawaii, because my flight gets there first.

For those of you living under a rock, Brad has been doing a long term substitute teacher gig in Hawaii for the past few months and his time there is almost over, so we had to go out to see him. Lauren would have gone, but apparently Hawaii is an island and is surrounded by ocean. Lauren has decided that she wants no part of the ocean, so it’s just the boys going out to see Brad.

Lauren did take care of all of my packing needs. I think she likes to pack for trips as much as she likes taking them. So it was a win-win here. She was a little disappointed with how much I packed. I think her words were, “You need three shirts: the one you’re wearing, the one you’re washing, and the one that’s drying.”

Packed Hat

I think she especially liked packing the hat.

Denver Airport: floor

April 27, 2012 by Lloyd 4 Comments

I don’t remember when this was, but It one point, I had to spend a lot of time in the Denver airport. A little later, Lauren and I were there together. I drug her miles through the airport to find this section of the floor.

I wish I would have taken pictures from floor level. Then you could have all of the frustration that I had when I first walked across it and wondered what in the world was going on.

I even wish that you could have had the few minutes of frustration that Lauren had before I took her up to the second floor to look down on the tiles:

Maybe I could have used photoshop to make them look all ground-levely

You’ll have to take my word for it and feel frustrated on your own.

Imagine you're one of those ladies.

Safe!

July 17, 2008 by Lauren 20 Comments

We made it!  Thirteen hours door-to-door.  I will never. do. that. again.  There is a reason that we have jobs – so we can afford a hotel room and take two days.    It wasn’t all bad – Lloyd played songs on his iPhone, we read books, ate a ton of junk from the cooler, and best of all – we’re at my parents’ house! We took the scenic route from I-70 over to Eckert, where my folks live.  It goes over Grand Mesa, and it cracks me up how this crazy highway (Highway 65, I believe) hugs the side of the mountain….. with NO RAILING.    I guess if you know about this road you know that you have to pay attention.  Those plants won’t save you.

Lloyd’s vacation

July 5, 2008 by Lauren 18 Comments

Good grief Lloyd’s been gone a long time.  He’s having fun in Missouri now at the annual Sommerer Family Reunion at Heit’s Point.  I’m sad to not be there for the music, fun and bacon. (mmmmm…. bacon)  I don’t miss the mosquitos, though.  If you didn’t catch it last year, here’s the movie we made about the 2007 reunion.  Hope you’re having fun, Lloyd, but come home soon.

I missed the giant breakfast.

Begin the giant breakfast making!

And the hanging out on the boat.  Lloyd was supposed to bring pop – I hope he remembered.

Hangin’ out on the boat.

Here are Mom and Dad Sommerer watching the traditional softball game.

Mom & Dad watching softball.

Are you thirsty?  They must have put Lloyd in charge of spelling.

The sweet teee is ready.

Lloyd’s cousin Katie said he could have this tie rack if she made it to the website.  Anytime, Katie.  (Is that Vincent beside you?  How’d he get so tall?)

For his many, many ties.

I just have to say, how on earth is Lloyd able to check the internet from his iPhone out in the middle of nowhere, but he doesn’t have a phone signal in our house? Something is wrong with technology.

Hogwarts for Lutherans

October 1, 2007 by Lauren 6 Comments

The signs at McDonalds are not trimmed in oak.

Dang my poor picture-taking skills. Really, dang it. Lloyd mentioned that we visited the seminary, where my brother is the director of development and my father went to school. It’s truly beautiful, and thanks to the generous donations of good people like yourselves (you’re welcome for the plug, Mark), they have made some awesome improvements. The one that made my heart go pitter-pat was the dining hall. No joke – it looked like Hogwarts. It used to have a dropped ceiling but they got rid of that and exposed the vaulted ceiling with the big iron chandeliers and have all kinds of cool seating – big tables, little tables, comfy chairs, a lounge, an internet cafe’ kind of thing – and it looks so dang cool! The joke I used way too much was, “Wanna watch me get punched? (in a louder voice) Boy! This makes me want to be a pastor!” Not funny to anyone else, as are most of my jokes.

Here are my fuzzy pictures that do it no justice.

Can you see the computers in the back?

I showed great restraint and did not check the website from here.

Trapped?

January 14, 2007 by Lauren 2 Comments

Lloyd and I have spent the weekend working in the computer lab switching old computers over to new ones. Actually, I spent most of Saturday reading and watching movies, but today I’m a big helper. My skills at drilling holes have come in handy to attach cable holders and surge protectors to the underside of tables. Lloyd’s doing stuff, too, but it’s not nearly as important as the hole-drilling. Hole-drilling is key.

Anyway, there’s a big ol’ buncha snow falling from the sky, so I’m certain we’ll be trapped in Lincoln overnight. So, Annette, if you’re reading this, I’ll need tomorrow off. (heh heh heh)
