Reservations are open

April 30, 2015 by Lloyd 5 Comments

I know many of you want to know what actually goes on at the Sommerer Family reunion. Well, I’m pleased to announce that all of the information for the 2015 reunion has been posted.

In total it is about ten pages. I know this, because my mom routinely prints out the internet for my dad to read. You can go to the: Introduction, General Information & FAQ, Schedule of Events, Meals or Reservation page. Each page is guaranteed to be more fun and exciting than the last. That is to say, the last page isn’t very exciting.

If you actually go and take a look, I want you to notice how different the Sommerer Family Website looks as compared to LaurenAndLloyd.com. People say that they look similar, but I’m always quick to point out the completely different color scheme and the slightly different logo. Oh, and we completely stole the motto from the Hofmans. Sorry, Hofmans.

Last Year’s Family Reunion

July 16, 2013 by Lloyd 6 Comments

With Lauren gone, I have to find some way to fill the time that would normally be spent getting up from wherever I’m sitting and going to look at whatever cute thing the cat(s) are doing. yesterday I finally edited some footage from last years family reunion that I took with my phone.

Sometimes we sing songs late at night, and that’s where the audio came from. But I recorded it with my phone, so it doesn’t sound nearly as good as it does at 11:00 at night when you’re really exhausted after a hard day of reunioning.

Take Me Out to the Ball Game

July 11, 2010 by Lloyd 9 Comments

This was a big experiment. I (1)wanted to see if the video on my phone was good enough that I could reliably use it when things needed to be taped. I (2)needed to learn to use the latest version of iMovie.

About 4 years ago Apple completely rewrote their video editing program that comes with every Macintosh. They rewrote it and cut out about 50% of the features. Everyone was upset about it, and so they made the old version available as a download.

I’ve been using that old version at school for Multimedia Application and Video Editing, two of the classes that I teach. Every year they add back some of the features from the old program, and this last semester some of my students wanted to use their own laptops for their video projects. Nothing wrong with that, except that Apple no longer allows downloads of the old software, so they had to use the new software.

And they liked it. They told me I should try it. The annual Sommerer family ball game seemed like my chance:

My verdict? It’s good enough to use now, but I don’t really like it. Lots of features are hidden and the layout does not seem as intuitive to me. But it is easy to make a nice video.

P.S. If you are related to me, you should post comments on the Sommerer Family Website.

Heit’s Point… The Movie

July 11, 2007 by Lloyd 12 Comments

I didn’t know I was going to do this until Lauren found the song on iTunes. After that I had no choice. Sorry about the pictures. We only had the ones that Brad, Lauren and I shot, and they were never intended to fill up 3 minutes and 28 seconds of time. If I was really going to do this I would have asked Brad and Lauren to take 2 million pictures… Oh well.

Lauren here – I’m hiding it behind this little link.  I suspect it may take a while for dial-up people to download.  Consider yourselves warned.

Since I teach Video Editing to our high school students, I feel obligated to grade this. I give it a “B-“.

Reunion – Check!

July 5, 2007 by Lauren 5 Comments

Lloyd’s family gets together every year around the Fourth of July at a Lutheran camp in Missouri. We’re leaving Friday morning and  I was going to write down a list of things to take on a piece of paper, but I’ll just list it here.  Make sure we get it all in the car, ok?

  • clothes
  • swimsuits
  • floaty things
  • towels
  • sheets, blankets, pillows
  • sunscreen
  • bugspray
  • folding chairs
  • beer cooler
  • some stuff to eat
  • cameras, phones & chargers
  • ukuleles
  • shower present (Lloyd’s cousin Steve’s young bride is pregnant.)
  • Brad

I think that’s it.  See y’all Sunday!  (Or maybe there will be some time-delayed posts???)
