Ready for the zombies

August 9, 2017 by Lloyd 4 Comments

I was driving to the computer store to pick-up some iPads for Lincoln Lutheran students, when traffic came to a stand still. I was right at an intersection, so I thought I would just make a little jog to bypass whatever craziness was taking place ahead of me.

I went about a block and came to this house:

logs2

They are clearly working on their preparations for the Zombie Apocalypse, and who can blame them. I was impressed with their efforts thus far.  They are not yet completely around the house, but the stack is about 6 feet thick, so you could walk around on the top and pick zombies off without being in any danger of falling off the wall.

Also, I may have been playing too many zombie games this summer.  Also, there have been other posts about zombies.

Zombie Threat Level Map

April 11, 2010 by Lloyd 9 Comments

There are several good sources for general zombie preparedness information. But they all seem to report on the likelihood of a universal of zombie outbreak. If you’re trying to guarantee the survival of yourself and your family, or planning a vacation, you’ll want to know what the zombie threat level is on a state by state basis.

Yesterday we had the data in a handy table. Nice, but who wants to take that kind of time? Today we have the same information culled from state by state news reports, blog posts and tweets. Click on a state for more specific data.

Opps, couldn’t find the map. You may need to upgrade your Flash Player

Technical Details: a python script grabs the state by state data from google and twitter then saves an xml file that the flash map (from the lovely people at amMap) displays.

Zombies

April 10, 2010 by Lloyd 8 Comments

You might recall that a few months ago we went to Zombieland for Bad Movie Night. There was some talk at the time that it might have been the best movie we’ve ever seen (on Bad Movie Night). Bob Krall liked it so much that he got it on BlueRay when it came out. I wanted Lauren to see it, so I asked Bob if I could borrow his copy. Bob got me a copy of my own, and I think Lauren liked it 64% more than she usually likes zombie movies.

Well, Lauren and I were talking about zombies again last week, and I thought it would be a good idea to keep everyone informed concerning the current level of zombie activity. Some of you may have noticed the Zombie Threat Level information on the sidebar.

When we first first added the Zombie Threat Level indicator it was based on what we were observing around town. The general amount of feet shuffling. People saying, “Brraaiinnnnsss.” That sort of thing.

But then I started to wonder if there wasn’t some better way to monitor the undead, so I wrote a little computer program to keep tabs on the zombie activity by counting the number of times zombies come up in the news, on blogs and on Twitter. Now, I know what you guys are thinking, “That’s all well and good, but why should I care if there’s a zombie outbreak in Florida when I’m in New Jersey?” So I decided to collect the data for individual states.

Bad Movie Night. Fail!

November 3, 2009 by Lloyd 9 Comments

Well, it happens every once in a while. You get a few of guys together to go see a Bad MovieTM, and instead you see a really well done movie.

I mean, how could we go right with a movie called ZombieLand? Doesn’t that just scream bad movie? Well, it was all around well done. The acting, the dialog, the zombies, they were all top notch. There was even a really funny extended cameo in the middle of the flick.

Three out of five actors in this movie have won academy awards. This clown is not one of them.

If you only see one zombie movie this year, this is the one you want. Oh, and stay until the end of the credits too.
