Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat…

December 23, 2006 by Lauren 1 Comment

Not much new to post today.  We’re packing things up to go to Missouri for Christmas, so this will be a busy day.  To keep you occupied, how ’bout you share a memory of a favorite present?

Here’s a picture of our family when we lived in Delta.  (I’m 3, I think.)  Don’t these children look pleased with their presents?  Doesn’t my mom look YOUNG?  (If my math is correct, she is 35 in this picture.  If you’ll remember, I’m 37 now.)

The glorious mess of Christmas

IF we sent out Christmas Cards

December 21, 2006 by Lauren 6 Comments

Ok, let’s just get it out in the open that this is NOT a real card – it’s just a funny thought that popped in my head, and like all prototypes, had to be carried out immediately. But if we WERE going to send out cards, this would be it.

Take that, Hallmark.

Storm a’brewin

December 19, 2006 by Lauren 10 Comments

Posting this will guarantee that no bad weather will occur, I’m sure, but since we have nothing else to talk about – we’ll talk about the weather. Tonight & tomorrow we’re supposed to have some freezing rain headed in from the south. If Lloyd can’t get into school tomorrow, there will be some pros & cons.

Con: He was planning to take all the middle school students to a theater to see ‘The Nativity Story’, and it’s kind of a bummer that he’ll miss it.

Pro: Today (Tuesday) will have been (unknowingly) the student’s last day of school, so the staff will have escaped the ritualistic ‘last-day-of-school’ craziness.

A bad wind from the south...

Happy Birthday to me!

December 16, 2006 by Lauren 11 Comments

Today (Sunday) I am 37 years old. (Hooray – a prime number. It’s been six years since that’s happened.) No big plans for the day – just doing some last minute shopping, perhaps.  (By the way, Kathryn wanted me to make it very clear to everyone that she was the first to wish me Happy Birthday.  Annette was the second. Line up, people!  🙂 )

Even 37 years ago, I loved to nap.

(I’m the little one – asleep, as ususal. Left to right are: Mom, Phil, Mark, and Keren. Dad’s taking the picture….or maybe Santa is….)

Old floors

December 15, 2006 by Lauren 1 Comment

One of the advantages to living in this old house is that we have pre-aged hardwood floors. It’s the lovely look of hardwood, but since it’s already scratched, there’s no pressure to keep it nice. It’s also expanded and contracted as much as it ever will, so there are big gaps here and there.

Anyway, I brought in the mail today and put it on the piano. A letter slipped off and landed like this:

Yep, it's on edge.

Here’s an on-edge view – Cool!

Magic!

New spot for Nativity

December 11, 2006 by Lauren 4 Comments

Someday I’ll have to take pictures up close of our Nativity set.  It’s got large wooden pieces carved in some other country, and it’s very nice.  My favorite pieces are Shmoo Shepherd and Stingy Wise Man. Maybe tomorrow I’ll post their close-ups.

Anyway, I usually put them on top of the piano, but this year they’re in an upstairs window with sheets behind them to make them sillhouette-y.  (The picture to post would have been of me taking this picture.  Our camera doesn’t have a zoom, so I stood on a kitchen stool on the sidewalk.  Pretty classy, eh?)

Brad Quote

Students dream of misbehaving in Brad Royuk’s classroom so they can have detention with Brad Royuk. But no one misbehaves in Brad Royuk’s classroom.
