Reading is hard.

February 28, 2010 by Lauren 9 Comments

Happy Birthday, Charles!

So….. I was making a big ol’ batch of chili the other day so that we’d have food around the house, and made a tiny, yet terrible mistake. Usually I dump in a packet of chili seasoning, but I was out. I shook in some chili powder, then some ground cumin….. mmmmmm…..is someone making a cobbler?

*gasp*

Dang it! That’s not cumin!!

Drat those McCormick spices and their similar bottles and fonts!

Cinnamon - so rich and aromatic, scooping it out wil not help one bit.

Calling all IKEA shoppers

February 27, 2010 by Lauren 10 Comments

I need this swing.

Oh, the calming swinging motion it could provide...

In the school-age room at the CDC, our school-age coordinator would like a swinging chair for under her loft. I was excited to try and make one (that’s what the mystery legless chair was for), but trying to work out the logistics is just going to be more trouble than I want to expend right now.

The IKEA chair will work. It’s fairly cheap, and has just enough clearance so that it won’t hit the floor, and more importantly – it is not something Frankenstein-ish built by me. So, I’m throwing it out there – if you live near an IKEA and are willing to 1) buy it (in white if possible) 2) take it to a UPS store and have them ship it to me, I will send you a check for the amount of both costs plus a poem written just for you, a drawing of Lloyd and a mythical LloydandLauren.com t-shirt.

I only need one, so don’t everybody volunteer at once, ok?

For Good or Evil?

February 26, 2010 by Lloyd 12 Comments

So, I have this brand new paper iPad that I just put together. I also have a new teacher at school who is a bigger Apple Fanboy than I am. But I don’t know just how to best put it to use. Any ideas?

It's cheaper to ship them this way.

Lauren says I'm a very good cutter.

Just for fun, I put a smaller one inside this one.

I have an unhealthy love of card stock.

Every morning I get a small piece of card stock, fold it in half, then put it in my back right pocket. It stays with me throughout the day and when I realize I need to do something later, it goes on the list.

“Are you writing something on your list?” the preschoolers ask.

“Yes,” I answer.

“Because you forget stuff, right?” they respond.

“Right.”

They know me so well. One of my least favorite characteristics is that I only remember something when it’s right in front of me. As soon as I switch surroundings *poof* – gone. The list helps quite a bit, plus it’s so satisfying to cross things off.

Back to the paper: Card stock has so much going for it. It’s substantial, so it’s not a little wispy paper that will get frayed and crumpled being pulled out of my pocket so often, and it’s quite satisfying to write on. I used to have a stash of index cards that I guarded like they were made of gold, but someone recently donated a whole box of card stock strips that I have cut down into a ten-year supply of future lists.

My writing is poor but my intentions are good.

So, is it unhealthy, or do other people feel passionately about their writing supplies? (Don’t get me started on pens….)

My new anthem.

February 24, 2010 by Lauren 10 Comments

Sorry for just posting videos, but this one is worth it to me. Things have been a bit crazy lately, and March is going to be a bear. Deep breaths. Deep breaths.

This video makes me happy, and the chorus is just what I need – ‘Let it go, this too shall pass’.

(You’ll have to click on the link in the link.)

(It’s the Norte Dame marching band! Did you know I was a flag girl in marching band? Rock it out.)

**********
You know you can’t keep letting it get you down
And you can’t keep dragging that dead weight around
Is it really all that much to lug around
Better run like heck* when you hit the ground

When the morning comes

When the morning comes
Can’t stop those kids from dancing
but why would you want to?
Especially when you are already getting good
‘Cuz when your mind don’t move then your knees don’t bend
But don’t go blaming the kids again

When the morning comes,
When the morning comes,

When the morning comes,
When the morning comes,

When the morning comes,
When the morning comes,

Let it go, This too shall pass
Let it go, This too shall pass

You know you can’t keep letting it get you down,

No you can’t keep letting it get you down
Oh Is it really all that much to lug around,
And you can’t keep letting it get you down

When the morning comes
(Oh you can’t keep letting it get you down,
No you can’t keep letting it get you down)

(*He doesn’t say ‘heck’.)

1234

February 23, 2010 by Lauren 10 Comments

This, ladies and gentleman, is our one thousand two hundred thirty-fourth post! Woo-hoo!!!!

In honor of this numerical wonder, I give you these:

A sappy love song. (I like the chorus.)

Feist’s fun song.

Feist singing the same song with Muppets!

Happy 1234 Day! It’s the bowling pin arrangement! Do you bowl? (I did – once when all alone. That was awesome.)
