I dunno…..Fail?

August 1, 2008 by Lauren 11 Comments

Lloyd and I are both going into work tomorrow, because *sigh* school’s starting back up and there’s stuff to do, y’know?  However, it was 9:00 and I was going to go to bed but I had no post material.  In a fit of stupidity I thought, “Well, how ’bout I try to make a light box quick?  How hard could it actually be?”  A little Googling, a little scavenging, and I tried this:

Ok, K-Mart, you are a treasure trove.

The box is one of several bins that I got out of a K-mart dumpster when it was going out of business.  The lamps from….. well, I don’t know. College?  Anyway, they didn’t work. I can’t get the left one to clamp anywhere so it shines through the side, and I’m sick of trying.  I’ll keep you updated later.

Curious to make your own?  Let me know how it goes and give me some tips, eh?  I’ve wasted enough time on thiss – it’s off to bed.

Ewww.

Brad and I took Beth to Lincoln tonight so she could join Harold for a wrestling thing (not with each other… I presume.) Anyway, we stopped at the mall so she could return some clothes and went to the food court for a bite to eat. My teeth had felt a little yucky all day, so in the food court bathroom I was both surprised and pleased to see this:

A dollar! That’s insane.

A Chewable Toothbrush. I foolishly didn’t look at the picture on the vending machine and was expecting something more like crunchy gum.  This was made of plastic, which will wind up in the ocean eventually.  Foolish, foolish Lauren.  I chewed it for about five minutes then started gagging.

Blurry, as is my custom

The picture is blurry, but if you want to see it in more detail, go here.

In other news, Lloyd is having a blast in Texas!  Lloyd, tell the good folks how much fun you’re having!

On a bike, no less!

Emo Fridge is Tired

June 18, 2008 by Lauren 10 Comments

Brad brought some wonderful presents from IKEA for me! I don’t know whether to be thrilled that he brought them, or angry at him for flaunting his IKEA shopping abilities at me.

One of the presents was a package of three wooden magnets. We had a conference today and our staff presented on playing with items in new ways. I have decided that these, along with my sugar dispenser, will show my mood. I am tired. Good night.

“Emo” is what the kids today say for “emotion”. Kids today…

(More emotions to come later.)

By the way, all your entries yesterday were right, but Mark gets the points. 🙂

Perfection 2.0

June 3, 2008 by Lauren 14 Comments

I know, I know – how could I find a Thermos that I love more than my previous one? Well, it took a Thermos that had a snap-in strap; foldable, Transformer-like handle, two-count-’em two cups, & a double-cap/plug-thing: one for hot coffee and one for food. (Points to me for using almost every form of punctuation known to man in that sentence.)

A thing of thermal beauty!

C m caps?
Why? To cook oatmeal. And I don’t even like oatmeal that much. It’s a quarter cup of steel-cut oats, a cup of boiling water (pre-heat the thermos, though), pinch of salt and some dried fruit if you like, seal ‘er up and let it sit a couple of hours. If you use the all-metal kind of thermos it will stay hot forever! (Or until I like oatmeal, which is almost as long.)

Apparently you can cook other things in it. I tried ramen (four minutes for me, please), and realized this would have come in handy in college when John would only let you use his hot pot for water only – no actual cooking. You just could not cook noodles in a Big Gulp cup. It just didn’t work.

Replacing the Robot

April 18, 2008 by Lauren 11 Comments

Lloyd’s parents are coming for the weekend to attend the Gala (Lloyd’s school’s fundraiser) and hear him sing on Sunday. I thought we could have waffles Saturday morning, and maybe Lloyd’s dad could help whip the egg whites.

Do you think this’ll be ok?

It’s construction should be exceedingly simple.

UPDATE: It didn’t work as well as just using the big whisk – too much time and it is HEAVY!

In action.

Hold the roll

April 17, 2008 by Lauren 8 Comments

This is one of my prototypes from a while back. Our janitor’s closet at school is far away from the bathrooms, and I wanted a convenient way to keep supplies handy – but with some style! Here is are the shelves; poorly executed because a) I was in a big hurry and b) didn’t own a router yet and c) I’m not really a ‘detail’ person.

If you squint real hard, it looks pretty good.

Yes, they are assembled with L brackets.
